You must have attended to some pretty shitty high schools.

I would have to agree.

To paraphrase a teacher of mine (High school): "A professional with any self respect and skill in his field does not become a teacher."

And he was not wrong. He used to teach computers back than. I am a programmer and right now I have like 5+ time his wage (not exaggerating), more skill and knowledge than he ever had, a better job, more respect from my coworkers and I don't have to deal with annoying hormonal teens on a daily basis. There is literally nothing but desperation that could make me take a job teaching children.
Purpelia does not reflect my actual world views. In fact, the vast majority of Purpelian cannon is meant to shock and thus deliberately insane. I just like playing with the idea of a country of madmen utterly convinced that everyone else are the barbarians. So play along or not but don't ever think it's for real.

The above post contains hyperbole, metaphoric language, embellishment and exaggeration. It may also include badly translated figures of speech and misused idioms. Analyze accordingly.

I wish all other American workers were as unified and courageous as public school teachers.

And I am so glad of that.

There are those of us however who do find worth in the idea of teaching the next generation, even if they do grow up to be rather disagreeable humans.

It's amazing how much people hold teaching in such disdain. Hopefully if they ever have children, that attitude will have shifted by then.

Of course it's not time. It's never time, not on its own. You make it time. If you're under fire in the no-man's land of WW1, you start digging a foxhole even if the ideal time would be when you *aren't* being bombarded, because once you wait for it to be 'time', other situations will need your attention, assuming you survive that long. If the fields aren't furrowed, plow them. If the iron is not hot, make it so. If society is not ready, change it.

In many cases, it's either resentment by those who are afraid their kids will learn about evolution, safe sex, and read a book about someone with two mommies, or it's based on the false claim that teachers don't work hard.

I elected to quit high school and get my GED (which many may not know IS a high school diploma issued by the state, not an "equivalence" certificate) because I couldn't deal with the environment of high school, but I didn't do that because of bad teachers. I had a few really good teachers who did excellent work and kept everyone engaged and helped students develop critical thinking skills. I did have one or two bad teachers too, but they were the exception, not the rule.

Two of my family members are teachers and I'm acquainted with others, they are so dedicated they pay out of their own pocket to make the classrooms better. And in the West Virginia strike, the teachers on strike paid for food and distributed to all of their students who rely on free breakfasts and lunch to have enough to eat. More teachers than not go above and beyond.

If it doesn't shift then, they should become teachers. I have a teacher who buys food every day for anyone who can't afford it themselves and school supplies and anything else. In some cases she's helped with situations at home too. Almost every teacher that I ever had has done anything they had to for students. It's really disappointing that people still think teachers are useless.

LA teachers are currently having a last-ditch negotiation to stop a teacher strike on Monday.

In my experience the exact opposite is true.

In my experience there is a lot of variety. I had some teachers who were delightful nurturing people that really wanted to help kids and broaden their horizons. Others were vindictive dirtbags or worthless stuffed shirts.

But you will generally get more of the good teachers and fewer useless oafs at properly funded schools where they can expect decent working conditions.
