It wont. Public pressure will force people to abandon their positions eventually. Whether that is Democrats or Republicans is anyone's guess.

Trump says it can. Are you calling him a liar ?
And perhaps he is planning to do the same to the USA as he did with his companies: let it go bankrupt before he has to pay.

If that's the case, then we're getting shafted from both sides and domestically...

If it can last until 2020 when the US can boot out Trump then I guess that would be an intresting end to this trainwreck of a presidency.

If the government is in shutdown, do the people organising the voting get paid ?

Trump is also an idiot who doesn’t know the consequences of effectively saying “let them eat cake”. If Trump wants to take this to January 20, 2021 hes going to have to deal with almost two years of an unpaid military. History shows that people who don’t pay the guys who know how to do shooty things don’t last long

No. What it means is that money is taken from somewhere else, namely things like retirement funds or social security funds.

Well that’s going to eat into his base.

It also mean that foreign governments are less likely to trust the US and we will might see another downgrade in our credit rating.

I doubt it'll be a military coup. Maybe the military will get involved, but not a full-on coup. Probably just them plotting a few schemes and threatening Trump, and trying to install someone else (Most likely Sanders due to his popularity) in place of Trump.

Elections are run by states. The federal government is not involved. As a poll worker I get paid by the Board if elections

I think the pentagon would put more pressure on the republican senators to end this. It wouldn’t be a full on coup but it be a political/ legal coup.

If the military tried to install anyone it would be Mattis not Sanders

Active military and most other military personnel are specifically paid even in cases of a shutdown through seperate appropriations bills. They are largely immune to the shutdown taking their pay, at least in the near term unless Trumpw were dumb enough to try and attach his wall to that bill. The Coastguard is an unfortunate casualty because they are not funded through the DoD, but through the DHS.

There is not going to be a coup of any kind. Enough with your fantasies
