Yes. But it works if you have a charismatic personality (Obama, Reagan, Kennedy). People see right through it if your personality is so obviously fake (Hillary Clinton).

Now I don't like Reagan's policies at all but his speaking voice was fucking golden.

Actually, Reagan was never well liked throughout his presidency, especially during his 1st term.

Reagan would have been a lot less popular if he had the demeanor of say, Dick Cheney.

And nobody would've cared for Kennedy if he was bald, fat, and spoke with a Wisconsin accent.

People remember these presidents for great quotes they've had and the images they projected, not actual policies they've done. Kennedy governed fairly conservatively and Reagan was pretty liberal on several issues.

Reagan wasn't popular.

Only reason he last so long was because he came into the presidency around the time computers became popular in offices, leading to a decent economic gain that he then took credit for.

Seems the Republican nomination will be contested..

Former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld on Monday formally declared his candidacy for White House, setting him off on an extreme uphill climb to defeat incumbent President Donald Trump for the Republican nomination.

“It is time for patriotic men and women across our great nation to stand and plant a flag. It is time to return to the principles of Lincoln – equality, dignity, and opportunity for all. There is no greater cause on earth than to preserve what truly makes America great. I am ready to lead that fight," said Weld in a statement as he launched his bid to try and topple Trump, who remains very popular with Republicans.

he has quite the heritage..

Weld was born in Smithtown, New York. His ancestor Edmund Weld was among the earliest students (Class of 1650) at Harvard College. He would be followed by eighteen more Welds at Harvard, where two buildings are named for the family. A distant cousin, General Stephen Minot Weld Jr., fought with distinction in many major battles of the Civil War.

Weld has a sense of humor about his background; when Massachusetts Senate president Billy Bulger publicly teased him about his all-American heritage and wealth, pointing out that his ancestors had come over on the Mayflower, Weld rose on the dais with a correction: "Actually, they weren't on the Mayflower. They sent the servants over first to get the cottage ready."

No, it's really not. Historically speaking, our best presidents have been kind of dicks.

I disagree. Vehemently.

No, you need tact. Every good president was also good at being tactful

That's a great slogan. If he focuses on how divisive and confrontational the president is plus with clear examples of how he is ruining our image abroad, he could at the very least show that moderate Republicans dont like trump and that the hardcpre supporters are just the anti-immigrant section.

I sincerely believe that Trump would be a fairly popular president if most of his policies were the same but he he had the demeanor and tone of someone like Mitt Romney.

Nah. Between the national emergency declarations that set dangerous precedent and the family separations, he would still be rather unpopular.

I mean. To be fair, Trump was previously a Democrat who went to bat for Clinton. Still don't think Weld will get anywhere.

Being a giant asshole is really just the icing on the cake when it comes to Trump. His tweets might not mean much in terms of policy, but they show that he has no real understanding of how these issues work and nearly no talent for diplomacy, both of which are bad traits for a president.

Odd then, that he accomplished what nobody else seemed to be able to, through diplomacy. The Korean war might actually end now.

That's just objectively untrue. Most Americans saw a decrease in their tax burdens by at least 100 dollars

Nope. That has gone straight back to square zero because John Bolton suggested to Kim the Third that the United States were going for a Ghaddafi model of disarmament.
Kim the Third literally got on his train the next day after John Bolton mentioned Libya.

Odd then, that he accomplished nothing in multiple rounds of talks other than briefly disabling one nuclear testing site. He's had two opportunities to get North Korea to back down, and he has nothing of significance to show for it. Hell, the second round didn't even finish before Kim Jong-un packed his bags and went home.
On the other hand, he's managed to sabotage our relations with the UN, Europe, China, our allies in Asia, and Mexico, which I guess some might call a success, but I really don't.
