Most people who live in places where it gets in the negatives already have appropriate winter gear.

Trumptonium is spewing crap but you're not even thinking it through.

What makes this event remarkable is that it will be affecting places that do not normally get this cold.

Its also bringing historicly cold temperatures to places up north. The last time it got this cold up here was 1996. There are grown adults even where I am from who have never experienced what we are experiencing and even more who were too young to remember it. We have a mentality of toughin' it through cold weather that is leading to some very stupid behavior up here. This isn't normal cold by any stretch, amd there is a good reason I am not leaving my apartment at all, even for a few minutes.

Those of us old enough to remember this level of cold are hunkered down, and decidedly not roughing it. It will get to the point of actually freezing the antifreeze in your car. While its notnthe coldest windchills Inhave seen, it is still cold as balls, and dangerously so.

Hell, I am giving a pass on those climates not used to these temps. Its anomalous across the board, and nobody is really prepared for this.

Not sure what difference it makes to my comment. Humans don't perceive differences in temperature when it's very cold, or when it's very hot. There's no difference between sitting in +40c in the shade and sitting in a sauna at 90c. There's no difference between ~-5c and -50c if you're dressed like you would be for -5c. Your body just doesn't perceive it. People who are moaning about it are snowflakes.

If I remember right the most perceived and felt 10 margin difference is between 3c and 13c. Which I would assume is correct because in the first instance you need at least two layers and probably a coat and gloves, in the second you'd get away with one layer. The further you go from this, the less relevant the temperature.

However, if you at this point in time call the victim of a racially-motivated attack a liar who invented the story of his own assault, and it turns out that it happened like he said it did, you will be the one looking like an asshole on here.

Is he though? I see TMZ claim that, but it's pretty much absent from other reporting. TMZ is not above a certain level of... creativity... in their reporting.

Not really. You see, there's now an investigation into a threatening letter he recently recieved. Too early to say if there's a link, but it raises the possiblity of a planned and targeted attack, and the possibility of targeting him at his home.

He suffered a fractured rib, during the attack, and is said to have put up a fight when he was beaten.
