Partition of China?

Postby Sterigel » Tue Dec 11, 2018 4:51 pm

Hi. I'm new to the forum and I want to start my activity here with a question that came up in a bored day. Was there a plan to divide China among the European powers in the same way that they divided Africa?

From what I know, kind of.

Many nations wanted to, but China was far more powerful and unified. Not to mention they are simply farther away.

Europe did intervene in their interests on multiple occasions though. And Germany, Britain, Portugal, France and the Russians were very interested.

There was, however, massive amounts of foreign influence from basically everyone who held global power in Chinese governance and trade

Hello and welcome!
Forum rules require that you should do your own research about it (even something out of wiki would be fine), comment it (even succinctly), tell your opinion about it and provide something for the fellow posters to debate.

As you put it, the thread is a "homework help" thread, meaning you didn't even attempt googling "partition of China" and that you expect other posters to do it for you. That's entirely not how the NS fora work.

By the way, China is currently partitioned, and it has been partitioned by the Chinese themselves. Funny, isn't it?

The Europeans all wanted to expand their trade into China, and the English got a foothold in Hong Kong, while the Portuguese occupied Macao. The JApanese made their own colonial gains during WW2. during China's two, early 20th century civil wars, the country was divided up between Chiang-Kai-Shek's nationalist warlords (supported by Germany, and -very slightly- by Japan), and Mao's communist party (supported by the Soviets). Before the civil war, and after the breakup of the Chinese empire, many former Imperial generals returned to their home provinces (or other provinces), and formed their own warlord cliques. These warlords were supported by a wide array of major powers, such as Germany, Japan, and the US. During the time of the Berlin Conference in Europe, the Chinese Empire was very isolated, much like Japan.

Hi, and welcome to NS. No I don't think so, China was always to big a land area with a large population of mostly Han Chinese to divide. The main reason Japan could not conquer China during world war 2. Most of the Europeans just wanted trade and influence with China.

I am a strong supporter of the Chinese people and Taiwan China as I call Taiwan, not of the commie government of China, no I am not Chinese lol. I also have the nation of NS China.

I never tell a fellow nation what to post, what not to post or how to post it, read my sig below after this post, but in this case Risottia is right and just trying to help you, so the Mods don't close your thread.

You can edit your post and expand your topics and questions on China and create a poll with question like options, with your own comments and questions on the thread. You can use these Links if you wish: I have not found an actual link on your main topic on China. This link is not very good but is the only one I have been able to find so far, just trying to help you.

I am a strong supporter of China and the Chinese people under a western style democratic government. I support the Republic of China as the one and only true China. Taiwan China as I call it.

Imma keep it real with you chief, the CCP and their power complex isn’t gonna go away so these annexed territories are unfortunately going to remain that way, annexed. That is, till the CCP falls.

oh I understand
I've been on this page for some years with interruptions and I had never commented in a forum in all the Internet, so to vary the routine of this warm day in the southern hemisphere ...

You mean PRC/ROC? Well, the United States did not want reunification at that time in the early 1950s

I know that I was just mentioning some different ethnic groups who wanted to partition China
