Not necessarily though it certainly helps to get their insight since a lot of priests dedicate their lives to understanding the words within the Bible. You don't need to talk to a physicist to understand physics but it'd be a pretty good spanking idea to talk to one and at the end of the day they'll still almost certainly know more than you in a deeper and richer manner.

No, the Bible is a collection of various writings and teachers. A lot of it is historical documentation while others are priestly interpretations and others are commands by God. Also a lot of the OT (though not all) was placed on the back burner with the establishment of the NT.

I was a very devout Catholic when i was a kid. Reading the bible made me an atheist. But yeah you're right. I just can't understand it, since my views are so biased already!
