Pre-WWW with bulletin boards but when possible finding timeshare and endpoint nodes. First time connected to what became the internet was in the late 70s. Some times with a Telex connection to through OSCAR with no monitor. Everything was printed out on feed paper. Other times on a zippy 300 b/s modem.
Sanhei wrote:What do you usually do at that period with the Internet?

I asked some scientists/engineers for help with my homework, and played "Star Trek" and other games on the Telex print out with a bored Air Forces guys out there somewhere. I tried to play chess with but it was ate up too much feed paper. I was more into boxing with Ma Bell at the time.

First negative comment: Early 80s, evil people joining the punch tape (snail) mail share list and burning the tapes because "sharing each others code should be illegal." You know who you are Redmond
First Time Hacked: Natas variant on a 386 from an infected shared floppy destroying the hard drive and mobo about 1992. Went to Amiga until 2000s and switched to IBM compatible & GNU/Linux.

No thanks, one childhood visit from Uncle Charlie and Friends was enough. All you may want to know about exploration of the phone system and what became the WWW in the before days can be found with a good Internet search and in the files of 2200 Magazine. ::PBK::

1997 or 1998, somewhere about then.

Sanhei wrote:What do you usually do at that period with the Internet?

I honestly don't remember. Look up game walkthroughs? Possibly also leaving troll reviews on imdb. There wasn't really much to do on the internet in the 90s. I used Yahoo as my main search engine for about 2 years before I even discovered Google. Everyone seemed to use a different search engine back then. I can't even remember half of them.

Sanhei wrote:First time getting hacked / a negative comment?

Do you get hacked so often you can reminisce about your first time? As for negative comments, I don't even remember ones from last week.

My schoolteacher directed me and my classmates to open Internet Explorer and create a Hotmail account. This was in 1998/1999. I was in primary/elementary school. It was an after-school extracurricular.

I was between 7-10 and wanted to watch porn. The only porn in the house was my fathers porn which was not kidding either homemade by my father (Which made me to embarrassed to even watch) or Bestiality which even a 7-10 could realize is not your average porn.

Que me trying to Dial Up porn in early 2000s.

Never/Every day.
Imagine, there was an echoconference (something like a permanent forum topic), in which any topics, any insults and even threats were allowed under one single condition: not a word in prose. Only verse. The echoconference was called Duel.Rhyme

You could give more information about yourself and your history with the internet more if you want to.

I first used the Internet in the mid 1990s, I cannot remember the exact date. In hindsight I do remember how basic it was though, but at the time it didn't seem like it.

At the time I only used it for the most basic of tasks.

The first "hack" I experienced wasn't really a hack at all, but a computer virus that changed the default homepage to a shock site. :?

No idea. Possibly some time at school. Maybe at home before the computer we had hooked up to dial up conked out. I'm pretty sure that was 2004 which would mean two-ish years with ho home internet access. Sounds impossible these days but it wasn't a concern back then... we had these really fun game demos on the other computer + pinball and I think that was all we used the computer for my brother and I.

The first accounts I can remember making date to 2006 for forums and browser games. There should probably be a Runescape account from about then too but the oldest one whose name and password I remember is not that old.

As far as i can tell... I've never been hacked. As for negative comments? Mate, I've spent more than half my life on internet forums... I've got no idea.

Thanks. 2600. I was thinking back on certain uses of 2200 hz and 1700 hz together once upon another era.

Almost right, except that it was not rap. Lame rhymes and ragged rhythm were not forbidden, but they were been instantly punished by readers through a downrating.

The first time I used a computer to send 'electronic mail' was in 1989, via an academic computer. I was limited to three lines of text.

The first time I used the World Wide Web would have been somewhere between 1993 and 1995, on a text-only browser provided by Delphi. That would have about the same time that I first used an online bulletin board/forum.

The posts from Frisbeeteria and Ethel mermania are, fortunately, saving me from feeling too past it; there's at least two other people posting in the thread who are older than ARPANET (and they're also both more tech-savvy than I am).
