What do you usually do at that period with the Internet?

You could give more information about yourself and your history with the internet more if you want to.

That's not Internet, ya young whippersnapper. I'm not convinced that a PDP 11/70 could even network with another computer, much less a bunch of them. Didn't they mostly 'network' with 1-16 terminals? Also, while you were playing text adventures, I was writing one on an Altair 8800. Unfortunately, my writing partner and I didn't think we could make "Space Pirates" commercially viable and just gave up on it in '77 or '78.
My first networking experience was running a BBS on my ATT 6300, probably in the late 1980s. I think I had one of those newfangled 1200 baud modems that you could plug a phone cable into, which was a big step up from my original acoustic couple system. I only had one line, so the BBS was only up when I didn't need to make or receive any calls.
I do remember reading the position papers about this newfangled invention, the World Wide Web, and the concept of using dedicate browsers and some new language to tie it all together. I probably had my first chance to access it a year or two after reading that Tim Berners-Lee's report.

Heh. I was a user on the system not a sysop. The thing ran VMS, and yes we used a terminal to access it. Now I know they had a modem for it as it was a big deal when the modem was upgraded from a 110 bps to a blazing 300. Now what it connected too... I couldn't tell you, I dont remember if it was just. a remote terminal or a different system.
I can tell you, a pdp 11/70 can connect remotely as we still have one that runs traction power to the 3rd rails. Amazed the crap out of me, fills 4 cabinets. I giggled like a school girl meeting George Clooney when I first saw it. I can just sit and stare at it, the size of the boards are .... well huge. And there are pieces that are hand soldered on those boards. We are talking about replacing it, but it works, and the power guys are very resistant to change.
We had an att 6300 series at my first coding job. Basically a souped up XT clone as I remember, I think we had 512k ram in it. I dont remember what else it had
You beat me on the altair, I never used one of those. I do remember building Heathkits with 4004 chipsets on breadboards, .... man that was a long time ago.
