I like Greek a lot more. Latin seems so bland because there are so many Latin words in English and I grew up learning French as well. Greek is its own branch of the Indo-European family and has some really strange word roots compared to English and the Romance family. It also has a (sort of) unique alphabet. It's much more interesting to me from a linguistic point of view.Hrythingland wrote:Ha ha, as a tradcat this amuses me. Yet I see you are a fan of Greek, which is also used by the church and deeply rooted in western traditions.

As far as dead languages go though, my favourite is probably Biblical Hebrew, but only if they print all the vowels and other markings so I can actually read what it says.

The Greek alphabet is easy and makes more sense than romanization. Also if you know it then it helps with learning Cyrillic.Kowani wrote:Greek alphabet...bleehgg.
Maybe, but I doubt it. I'm not really into poetry anyway, except the Romantics.Hrythingland wrote:I have studied all three of those languages, 7 years of Latin at School, 5 of Classical Greek and a semester module of Classical Hebrew. All are fascinating and beautiful in their own ways. Latin is certainly not bland, it’s just very familiar. Delve into our rich corpus of prose and verse and I’m sure you’ll fall in love with something. Maybe some Catullus, Virgil... Tibullus?
