Quite a few people care.
Hence the fact that a lot of people are talking about it.

And apart from the fact that a lot of stuff falls under "adult content" (not just porn), the system being poorly implemented, and tons of content that shouldn't be flagged being flagged because tumblr's algorithms are a flaming pile of shit and the site is being ran by a bunch of blind gerbils, "All the other big social media sites don't allow that sort of content" kinda answers that question, doesn't it?
People care because they just lost something they can't get in the same kind of format, because all the other sites don't allow it.

And that's not even getting in to a whole bunch of online sex workers instantly losing a place to advertise themselves business.

Wow, you're so edgy and cool!
We are free to believe that this is the century of authority, a century tending to the right, a Fascist century. If the XIXth century was the century of the individual (liberalism implies individualism) we are free to believe that this is the "collective" century, and therefore the century of the State.

By the way it's an example of their own shit backfiring on them quite literally. Feminists in the US worked with Theocrats (As usual when their interests align) and pushed an anti-sex worker law to crack down on online sex work that was (either through incompetence or deliberately lying about the content), very, very broad. SESTA and FOSTA.

It's not a coincidence the ban is going through on International Sex Workers day either.

Earlier this year, after the passage of the "Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act" and "Stop Enabling Sex Traffickers Act" (FOSTA/SESTA) bills, sex workers felt the immediate chilling effects of the bills' included exception that allows web platforms to be held responsible for hosting advertisements for unlawful sex work. In short order, classified ad site Backpage.com was seized by the US government, Craigslist eliminated its "Personals" section and Reddit banned several sex work-related subreddits, with other platforms tweaking their terms of service and strengthening existing enforcement measures. Even Switter, a sex worker-run Mastodon instance quickly launched in response to FOSTA/SESTA, was deplatformed by Cloudflare within a month of its creation.

In the case of Tumblr, many sex workers have long turned to the blogging platform not only as a place to reach clients, but for intra-community support on every sex work issue under the sun, from abusive clients to how to file their taxes. Not only will sex workers who operate within the law — say, producing and distributing pornography in accordance with applicable laws and platform policies — be effectively denied yet another platform for reaching their audience, but communities of sex workers, especially further marginalized and struggling workers, will be discouraged from sticking around on the platform as a site for each other's support by way of Tumblr removing any explicit content they've posted, assuming their accounts aren't banned for it outright.

The fact that these communities often revolve around support and things like how to be productive citizens and file taxes and are being cracked down nonetheless on is pretty revealing of the contempt for these workers.

Tumblr spent years supporting a hate movement to be edgy and are facing the consequences. The Sex workers here are the ones getting needlessly fucked over.

There is an out of control trolley speeding towards Jeremy Bentham, who is tied to the track. You can pull the lever to cause the trolley to switch tracks, but on the other track is Immanuel Kant. Bentham is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Critique of Pure Reason. Kant is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Principles of Moral Legislation. Both men are shouting at you that they have recently started to reconsider their ethical stances.

Look, I'm just one more queer guy, and it sucks ass that tumblr banned it all, I know it may not seem like a big deal for people on the outside but for people like me, there's not many places to go really, it was our final bastion of all that weird kinky gay porn and NSFW art and now it's all gone. But that's just my opinion and I totally respect if you think otherwise

Or, it has nothing to do with gender and has everything to do with Tumbler staff being morons.

Child porn is horrible. It needs to be eradicated from the earth.

But banning all NSFW content is an over reaction. Like using a nuke when a air strike would be more useful.

Using AI to do it not only takes away jobs but removes non NSFW content too.

Not only that, but it removes reasons why anyone would visit the site in the first place.

It is a disastrous business decision. Nothing more.

You're ignoring who pushed for the law and lobbied for it and why. It was deliberately designed to fuck over sex workers, not crack down on child porn. It's not a disastrous business decision, it's Tumblr obeying the law. if they didn't take this action they would be financial liable to the tune of millions for each infraction. In order to be considered non-liable, they have to remove all pornographic content. If they permit pornographic content, they personally become liable for any individual user engaging in sex work, or child porn, etc, even if they take active steps to crack down on those things and it just happens that one slips by. That's the law that was lobbied for and passed by a coalition of feminists and theocrats. The law is broad enough to extend to things like communities of sex workers sharing advice on things like how to legitimately pay taxes on their income, because that supposedly involves facilitating sex work.

Awwww, we're back to this are we Vassenor? Didn't we prove to you that you're talking a lot of crap in the other thread already, or are you just ignoring your opponents points and strawmanning some more?

We're back to you saying laws openly lobbied for by feminists are somehow a conspiracy, are we? Just like you did over due process? That's some of the most ridiculous denial i've ever seen.

Vass.

Government isn't a conspiracy. It actually exists. It's not just a thing in movies, you know that, right? The news, while often untrue, isn't technically a work of fiction discussing fictional characters. Strange as it may seem, Donald Trump actually exists. It's not a conspiracy. Do you actually understand that and you're just being deliberately dishonest, or is this legitimately you not understanding the government is a thing that exists? Please clarify.

Incidentally, the law isn't magic, i understand that it can seem like an incantation or spell if you don't know any better, but really it's brought about by truncheons and prison cells, not spooky words in congress.

Thinking all feminists believe the same thing, especially about a contentious issue like pornography and sex work, is a mistake. There have been bitter disputes between pro- and anti-pornography feminists for literally decades.

I'm discussing the lobbies and organizations involved in the process. Sex positive feminists, while existing, are not a political influence on society. Refusal to acknowledge the people behind these kind of laws and hold them accountable is the reason this shit keeps happening.

Admittedly, I know next to nothing about Tumblr. If their owners/site operators deem it fit to do away with "NSFW" content, then by all means, that's their decision. I know there are outlets other than Tumblr where one can find adult content, c'mon, it's the internet for christ's sake.

No.

That makes no sense, it wasn't the law that banned all NSFW from Tumblr after child porn was posted there. It was Tumblr's own independent decision.

If that was a law, pornhub would not exist anymore.

While I have not heard of this event happening, I find it hard to imagine that at no point in it's own existence did child porn get uploaded to porn hub.

If this law you speak of is real, then why is porn hub still up?

Pornhub is liable for any child porn or sex worker action on its site. It's just that without porn, they'd have no site. I'd wager you'll see porn sites sued in future over this issue.

Right, but the decision to ban all NSFW content was Tumblr own decision.

Not the law coming down on them.

If child porn was posted to Pornhub, they would remove it, ban whoever posted it, edit there moderation to stop future child porn posting.

Tumblr only needed to remove the child porn to comply with the law. Tumblr's own decision was to shut down all NSFW posting.
