At least I can agree that it's a trashcan of hate, but the thing that infuriates me is that the only thing that saved it from being only hate is art. The loss of its porn side (which inadvertently came to comprise quite a huge chunk of its content) isn't necessarily a death knell.
I'd bet that Tumblr will die, but who knows for certain what the future holds? It is too early to say Tumblr will be gone until we actually see the mass exodus and the numbers bear it out that it isn't recovering.

From what I hear, financial services and companies such as banks, hate handling transactions for porn websites. Why? Because accountants working for banks which do transactions for porn sites have noted over time that these websites are more correlated with high occurrences of fraud, money-laundering, identity theft and requests for refunds.

At best such content offends conservative sensibilities and at worst, it is illegal. So it is a huge hassle in terms of overhead. Payment processors charging interest of 30 to 50%+ per transaction isn't unheard of in those circumstances. Being an adult website in the eyes of a bank is quite a major con now. Financial companies aren't stupid, they do their due diligence and figure out what goes on with who they're doing business with.

Pornography is codified into many government legal systems as allowed with limitations on what can be produced.

Admittedly so pornography does have a higher fraud and charge back rate, that’s why many porno sites are now taking Bitcoin only and other crypto payments on blockchain where refunds and chargebacks are impossible. Once you send them their money it’s theirs.

Tumblr's free to do what they want to do, but they've got to understand that this would lose them a LOT of traffic (all the people who go to Tumblr for porn would just go to different sites that they were probably using anyway, plus a lot of other people would leave because of the principle of the thing).
Tumblr is probably going to survive this, but in the same way that Facebook would probably survive if they banned reposted memes, that being "it takes a massive hit that it's never going to truly recover from despite the fact that the service should theoretically survive without it".

If obscenity laws are taken into account, more than just CP has been criminalized before depending on jurisdiction. Practically speaking, the wider society of that locale has to consider the adult content in question to be more disgusting or objectionable to bother enforcing laws against it if any prohibitions exist on the books so to speak.

Most porn people come across will probably be legal, but there is still always the risk that they'll come across what is illegal in that type of industry. Porn in general can be considered higher risk. It has come to have a more shady reputation that gets tons of scrutiny the world over.
