People have told them about the Pornbot and CP problem for years but tumblr staff is incompetant and they focused more on banning right wing blogs than actual illegal material.

So now in a hamfisted attempt to solve the problem they basically banned all nudity and employed bots that tag any image of human flesh or text post about the ban as suspicious. They've also recently added a text limit.

So that more than banning sexual content is going to ruin the platform and speed its already steady decline.

Tumblr made the mistake of pissing off fandom. Sure, not all of fandom is "adult" content, but there is quite a lot of it that is. Censorship and limitations on fandom expression are a real good way to get all of fandom up in arms both the adult and the gen segments, especially when that limitation is being so ham-fistedly applied as Tumblr's idiotic algorithm is. All the adult art blogs are going to leave, and I imagine a huge number of non-adult fan blogs will be departing in solidarity as well. Certainly sounds that way from the fandoms I follow, with the exodus to other platforms already well underway.

Tumblr may survive shooting themselves in the foot, in the same sort of way that LiveJournal "survived" the Strikeout exodus. It might still exist, but it's going to become pretty irrelevant pretty fast, especially if they don't fix their automated content flagging bot.
