[Wunderstrafanstalt]

Back in the days when I still subscribe to nationalist far-right wehrabooism (oh boy how time changes), I watched a youtuber in a gaming video called "Wunder Strafanstalt" talking about this website called NS. Wunderstrafanstalt is originally going to be a stereotipical fascist dictatorship.

After watching a vid about the Berlin wall though I came up with the IC explanation of it - bastion of freedom isolated from the dark chaotic world.

I like water, I like astronomy -> Neptune, which in my language is spelled Nettuno, I changed it to have a desinence of provenance and voilà! Nettunia.

When I stumbled upon NationStates, I was deep into Byzantine history, right in the midst of devouring everything I could on the subject. Naturally, therefore, I wanted to create a nation based upon Byzantium.

Unfortunately, everything I could think of had already been used. I began to cast my net a bit wider. What else truly defined Byzantine culture and society? I would settle upon their rabid Christianity as their most essential, fundamental trait, after their Roman heritage.

"Triumphant" came, I believe, from a couple sources. First, reading an article on the Roman Triumph. Then, a vaguely-remembered factoid about the Christian Church being divided into the "Church Militant," "Church Penitent," and "Church Triumphant."

And now, I have as my oldest nation what must be assumed by all to be the work of a radical, fundamentalist Christian.

Years ago, I came up with the name Lanoraie after trying to figure out what I'd name my Animal Crossing: City Folk town. I later reused it for my New Leaf town. I came up with it by slamming together groups of letters that sounded pleasing. Turns out, there's a town with the exact same name in Canada, that I definitely had not heard of before. Really reinforces the idea that nothing is original lol. When I made it the name of my first NS nation before that got deleted for me being a rage filled asshole who has calmed down a little bit since then, I decided that "la" would mean "the" in Lanomiran, and "noraie" would mean "star". Thus....The Star Nation.

I wanted to see what sort of a name I could come up with that contained both a "z" and a "q." I threw a bunch of syllables together and this was my favorite combination. My second favorite result, Zequaya, became my capital city.

I made a little Java program that takes a list of names as input, mashes them through a Markov chain, and spews out randomly generated names with a similar aesthetic. I ran it with a list of Latin place names as input, and one of the output names was "Mechyrdia".

I first learnt of SwampFox watching a episode of The Magical World of Disney in the 70s and then 30 years later i played Vietcong and it became my screen name.

The Foxes Swamp part started for me before nation states when i started playing a Boxing game and a Horse Racing game and named my gym and my stable The Foxes Swamp.

Bit of a fantasy of mine, the 1993 Constitutional Crisis resolves in favour of the National Salvation Front and the Great Chort Yeltsin is put into prison.

Lokanthor is a portmanteau of "Loki and Thor." IRL, I'm Heathen, meaning I follow the Gods of the pre-Christian Norse, and Thor and Loki are my patrons (something that started more than a decade before Marvel started making movies featuring them.) I named my country in their honor.

Smashed the random name button when creating a nation and landed on Estanglia. As it sounded similar to the medieval Latin name for England (Anglia), and since I am English and I love history, I decided to use it. It was also the first one I got that I could pronounce. And here we are.

Smashed the random name button when creating a nation and landed on Estanglia. As it sounded similar to the medieval Latin name for England (Anglia), and since I am English and I love history, I decided to use it. It was also the first one I got that I could pronounce. And here we are.

I didn't realise people actually used the "random name" feature; then again, I'd already been around for a few years before it was introduced.

To quote myself on the subject:

This nation's name comes from being the Halloween entry in my holiday-themed series of puppets created in early 2014. I created one a week and covered Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Easter, Halloween, and Christmas. December Land, my Christmas puppet, ceased to exist with only 198 million people initially due to having forgotten my password for it, but this past September I finally remembered said password and managed to bring it back from four years among the dead. (I have a couple of 2012 puppets I could revive if I wanted to, too.)

As for why this was the nation with which I rejoined the forums after my year-long sabbatical, I wanted to preserve my old main nations' CTE dates and populations in the boneyard as a historical archive of sorts, and I'd already accidentally clicked on the forums while logged on under this nation, so it just seemed like the logical old puppet to revive so I wouldn't totally be starting over from 0. (Plus, it was only about a month and a half before Halloween anyway.)

The idea was implanted during one of my regular astral projections. My soul briefly melded with the spirit of a priestess of an ancient mystery cult based around an Eastern goddess of wisdom.

While I was filling in my nation name, I was reminiscing about a road trip to a Grateful Dead show in a classic 60's VW bus...and the Nation of Partybus was born.

It just came to me at the time. I still really like the name, mostly because it's pretty succinct.

I tried to find a somewhat-Finnish-sounding version of Lille øer, Danish for 'small islands'. Mixed with what just came into my mind, Lillorainen was what came out.

[Igueranel]

So the name Igueranel came from a story I wrote where the capital of this ancient nation was called Igueranel. The name of that nation was Angala, which I switched around and made my capital. Ironically I think I've developed the history and religion of the nation more on here than in what I have written so far for the story.
