How else do you propose implementing a carbon tax if a large chunk of CO2 emissions come from burning fossil fuels for personal transportation?

Not implementing one. Duh.

Honestly my solution would be to give tax breaks for electric/hybrid cars/buses/trucks. Or subsidize biofuel production from crop waste like corn stalks. Anything that would reduce our reliance on gas since those of us in the Anglosphere aren't going to give up driving.

Just tariff or ban the importation of internal combustion engines. It would not harm the drivers if current cars.
But it would make electric cars more competitive.

Restrictions on imports does not mean you ban the thing entirely.
People would no longer be able to buy foreign combustion engines but could buy domestically made ones.
And they could continue to use existing imported combustion engines.
It would only affect the ability to buy new imported ones.

Those protests are looking rad.

Macron? Don't like him, don't like his policies, but still prefer him to anything that the Rassemblement national sharts out. Melenchon is my dude.

Mélenchon has been showing his true colors more and more lately and that has killed much of the support that used to exist for him. He's most likely heading the same way as Valls into complete irrelevance.

But yeah, Mélenchon essentially did a repeat of Macron's "suit" episode and that killed the last shred of respect most people had left for him.

I was going to joke Frexit when? But then I saw this in the protests:
Image

But seriously, perhaps instead of taking the lead on trying to dictate the terms of Brexit, he would have done better soothing over the cracks in his own government, especially when he knew full well the French people would probably want to follow us.

And now, with his position effectively untenable, it mean Le Pen will probably lead the country and it will mean a EU referendum, and then the whole EU is thrown into doubt.

For someone thinking so long-term, it's quite an oversight not to notice that people like to sometimes change cars.

Also, thanks for wishing trouble for French trucking.
