Same.
You know you've made it on NSG when you have a whole thread created around what you said.

Panties. Year old rotten-crotched panties.
Tremble with the dawn, for it heralds the Long Night to come...
Tremble, for He brings the darkness as dusk never could...

It did adjust... by becoming separate Democratic and Republican parties...

well, not really. the Democratic-Republican party did sort of evolve into the Democratis party in the 1830's, but the modern Republican party is primarily an offshoot of the Whig party and wasn't formed until 1854.

Personally I'd like the Democratic-Republican party to still be around because that's what I would be. Though many parts of the Federalist party I agree with as well. Anyway how about you guys?

The PCI, Partito Comunista Italiano (lasted 1921-1991).
The Communist Party that:
1) had the largest number of members, both in absolute numbers and in percentage of population, outside the socialist bloc (that is: iscription to the PCI didn't give any benefit, actually it was hindered by the State)
2) got the highest percentage of votes in free, multiparty elections (the PCI even won the majority at the European Elections in 1984, beating the Democrazia Cristiana).
3) had the balls to condemn the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia ("most severe and unjustifiable", the PCI leadership stated)
4) was able to put together intellectuals and workers, bourgoise and proletarians, in a mass party effectively transcending class gaps
5) fought against both left-wing and right-wing terrorism
