Yeah I do put some of the blame on him. He went to the island four or five times and each time he was treated hostility. What the hell did he expect would happen? If this was the first time he went there I would not really blame him but he knew what would happen if he went and he chose to do so. Yes the men who shot him does carry most of the blame but he carries a lot of it as well.

Or to feed his own ego. Considering he broke the law and bribed several fishermen to take him, was let off numerous times by the tribe, and could have wiped them all out due to outside diseases, I'm inclined to think it was the latter.
