Both parties are gay though

I mean, one party attempts to find the most convulated reasons to accuse the gays of somehow being the source of all ill in the world, and the other party uses them as tokens and feel-good cards and spits them out the second they begin to go against their narrative.

So yeah, not exactly great.

You are right, but It's because LGBTQ+ liberation can't really happen under capitalism, because the discrimination of minorities came with economic effects. All other things being equal, a queer person had a harder time than a cisgender and straight person, due to homophobia in the workplace which meant that they can't be open in work lest their homophobic boss fires them, and during the AIDS crisis, doctors could refuse to treat gay patients, and they did. Poor health and poverty.

Democrats may make promises of equality and freedom to minorities, but they do it through reform of the system which has allowed and perpetuated inequality and discrimination. Republicans don't care, obviously, in fact the official position in the party is but the social conservative Evangelical Christian position that excludes gender and sexuality minorities from free society, which then casts them as sinners, and in a political sense, someone not worthy of legal protection and recognition.

This is a common left-wing critique of liberals, and by extension the US democratic party.

I vote to keep Texas red but do support libertarian/constitutionalist candidates for some local(nothing higher than state level) background races if I don't happen to have an ideal republican, especially when a reasonable person can't say that a democrat might win.
What do I think is good about democrats? I like that some of them can be genuine economic populists and I tend to be generally pro-union. I might vote for a pro-life democrat(and I think democrats in general don't realize how that issue in particular hurts them in red states, but that's another discussion) if they were at least neutral on SSM and sufficiently protectionist. I'm pro-official bilingualist on the state level.
Of course given that I'm an anti-capitalist corporatist with hypertraditionalist social leanings and a mild allergy to democracy, neither party is ever going to represent me and I know that. The constitutionalists are the least bad of the five relevant(can win an election or draw enough votes to swing one) American parties.

I tend to disagree with my party when it comes to "identity politics." I think, too often, we play into the narrative that attaching a label to someone makes them intrinsically more special. I support some gun control, but not an assault weapons ban like many in my party do, nor do I support NY state styles of regulations when it comes to ammo, etc (I'm a Dem who owns and likes my guns, so I fall between both parties when it comes to my views on gun control.)

I'm sympathetic to the pro-life movement, and am strongly, strongly saddened by abortions but I also don't think the government has the capabilities or capacities to intervene, abortion rights are here and should not try to be repealed.

When it comes to political figures I dislike, Trump comes to mind. I really hate his Presidency so far, but I will agree with him on trade in full, as a protectionist myself.

Those are the concessions I'm willing to offer, I'd say. I'm a pretty strong Democrat and very involved in the party, but I think I can make those concessions pretty honestly.

Edit: Caveat, I voted almost straight Dem, the non Dem votes were for a Green candidate, a write-in, and a lone Republican for City Council.

Wait, did I find an actual moderate democrat? I thought they were a myth.

I consider myself fairly left-Wing, mostly because of my stances on single-payer, the minimum wage & unions. Interesting to hear I sound moderate, probably because I was just offering up the positions I’m more “moderate on” so to speak.

Single payer is usually an oddball/populist stance rather than a left wing one, it seems- most establishment dems, including left wing ones, oppose it.
Minimum wage almost everyone wants to raise except actual republicans, and even some of those.
Unions it varies based on part of the country.
Honestly you sound more or less like a democrat that could win in a red state- sympathies to the pro-life movement(where establishment democrats tend to describe as being the literal devil) and a moderate stance on guns could go over well in certain suburban areas.

If your local democrat party has common sense, that is. In Texas they run local left wingers instead of the kind of moderate democrats that could potentially win a statewide election. I mean, seriously, you want Wendy Davis to try to beat the sitting republican governor of a red state, who won by having strong evangelical support?

Dems can obstruct exactly jack shit without a majority in the House or Senate and they got a majority in the former just recently but with none of them serving 'til January.

Ergo, Dems have done precisely zero obstruction.

I think both the Dems and Repubs have their fair share of good and bad ideas.
Most of the time I have no idea what the hell I'm doing or talking about.

No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all wise. Indeed, it has been said that democracy is
the worst form of government, except for all the others that have been tried from time to time." -

That has to do more with the fact the more fringe political ideologies kind of have to push their way into the mainstream parties or else they won't survive on the national landscape.

Looking at the party platform of the GOP the only thing I think isn't cringe-worthy would be their stance on guns honestly.
Their foreign policy section on Wikipedia says
The 2012 Republican Party platform opposes the Obama administration from attempting to impose what it considers a "cultural agenda", including a "homosexual rights agenda" in other countries by restricting foreign aid.[86] However, Republicans themselves have also frequently advocated for restricting foreign aid as a means of asserting the national security and immigration interests of the United States.[91][92][93]
