To be frank, I don't think many men realise that they're better off financially if they're unmarried. Aside from the whole "not losing your job and being financially responsible for your spouse as well as incurring all her debts" aspect of it, single men (and women) are also better off simply because they have less costs to pay, especially if they're not paying off a mortgage and raising children.

Conservatives always tout the "married men earn more" as a way to con the young and naive into conforming to their preconceived ideas about what they should be doing with their lives (hence that well known Prager U video), but they don't tell them about the additional stress and work it will take to achieve that high income, and how much money comes out from that income in terms of taxes and other costs.
