This is true.
I am woefully ignorant about pop culture, technology, company names, and as a I found out to my cost the other day, terminology regarding clothes.
But let's say this exchange happened:
...
A: "How are we going to approach this discussion with the British?"
B: "Its simple. We go to the Queen and give her our proposal. We'll make it 100% hard-hitting and its a Go."
A: "... ... the Queen?"
B: "Sup?"
A: "The Queen is the ceremonial head of state. She's not the head of government."
B: "Oh? Then who is the head of government?"
A: "The Prime Minister."
B: "... ... okay."
...
Would you not be concerned? =)
No. Especially if they came from a nation like the US where there isn’t a separate head of government
Ok I admit that “head of government” vs “head of state” is maybe a bit complicated and maybe does need to be learned.
But the notion that the British monarch (the Queen) is a ceremonial power while a PM is the real deal...
This is way too shocking not to know. If you get head of state vs government wrong then whatever. But the notion that the PM calls the shot in the UK and not the Queen... ignorance of that is a bit too much.
You know what I’m saying?
And that statement is qualified to western anglosphere people (USA, Canada, NZ, Australia etc)
