I am woefully ignorant about pop culture, technology, company names, and as a I found out to my cost the other day, terminology regarding clothes.

But let's say this exchange happened:

A: "How are we going to approach this discussion with the British?"

B: "Its simple. We go to the Queen and give her our proposal. We'll make it 100% hard-hitting and its a Go."

A: "... ... the Queen?"

B: "Sup?"

A: "The Queen is the ceremonial head of state. She's not the head of government."

B: "Oh? Then who is the head of government?"

A: "The Prime Minister."

The confusion seems to have arisen from the belief that "beef" is a specific cut of /way to prepare cow meat and that steak is a different cut or way of preparation.

You are on a date, at a nice restaurant. The date is going well, then the steaks arrive (served with fine wine). You both went with a New Zealand cut of medium rare.

Your date then says:

Depends on the steak. A beef steak is beef. A pork steak is pork. A tuna steak is tuna. A horse steak is horse, because a horse is a horse, of course, even if ground coarse.

I believe that there is no "standard of intelligence" really but an "expectancy of intelligence".
Being pretty dumb myself, i don't expect my date to bee too much smarter than i am.
Plus, it would be very easy to explain to her that steak IS in fact beef... when i'm done chuckling, of course.
it would be a deal breaker how ever if she was too stubborn to see the truth once i've laid out my argument.

And here I was thinking this was going to be about pedantically ignoring standard heuristics, i.e. that steak refers to beef steak even though there are also pork, chicken, venison or kangaroo steaks (which are all common enough, especially pork steak, and possibly there are even more out there)... actually, I'm pretty sure I've heard of vege steaks.

I would probably raise my eyebrows at the comment, but it wouldn't be a dealbreaker.

As for the level of intelligence I expect in a partner, I don't have very high standards. I find intelligence to be very attractive and I would love to date a smart guy, but I probably shouldn't get my hopes up. Smart guys usually end up with smart girls.
