Not really, I just wanted to plug Idles a bit. My experience probably isn't very helpful since I'm five foot four nerd with limited social skills and possibly some undiagnosed ADHD-I, so I'm not exactly an average man. Mostly, I'm fixated on a task, hungry, or horny, in that order. I assume that there's supposed to be some pressure on me to conform to some social norms, but I'm quite oblivious and don't give a shit anyway. I've never had any kind of romantic relationship, but it's not really a source of frustration because I've got a long life ahead of me, and mountains of varied and interesting erotica and pornography to occupy me in the meantime. I am very, very content.

Please, NSGs, I'm not trying to troll, this thread is actually about your impressions, and it could be even your specifical issues, why not?
I cannot state my opinion about this thing, due obiouvs reasons: not being a man, I cannot understand how is it.

Since my experiences are assumed to be the default experiences of everyone on Earth (e.g. I can walk down most city streets by myself late at night without worrying about my physical safety, and if I get laid I get high fives instead of side-eye [well, not anymore - married and monogamous these days]) - most of the shit I'm coming up with to say sounds rather petulant. White men are not getting significantly reduced opportunities in the contemporary U.S., but to hear us talk about it you'd never figure that out. The only area that's happening that I can take even halfway seriously is in academia, where the humanities are self-correcting for literal centuries of myopia and self-congratulation by hiring people whose perspectives reflect anything besides the stuff we've been reading and celebrating for that entire backwards era. Subsequent generations are going to look back and say "Well, duh."

Maybe I'm just unusually well adjusted that I don't feel like I have to be the primary or sole breadwinner, so the fact that we both work (and my wife makes a bit more than me) doesn't hurt me like it apparently hurts the average old fashioned man's man. OTOH that guy's most often an asshole, so fuck 'im.

If someone else can't open a jar, it's their fault. If I can't open it, it's the jar's fault. I never noticed this til now, but despite being a dad bod closer to 40 than I am to 30, I am the avatar of physical strength by which all things in my house are judged.

I have never not been the protagonist or prime actor in my own life story. It's almost solipsistic when you (and by "you" I mean "I" ) think about it.
