I shilled hard for Gary Johnson and everyone will tell you that. I truly hoped he could break 5% and maybe the party could do something worthwhile with it in 2020 but he fell short because the American electorate has a habit of continually disappointing me.

Yes I probably am going to vote Trump in 2020 because if a third party couldn't break 5% in 2016 of all years it's never going to happen and even if it did the two main parties would just destroy them like they did the Reform Party so I might as well support the candidate most beneficial to my goals. I support Trump in the sense that I acknowledge him as a useful idiot who pushes a few things beneficial and or favorable to me ie judicial appointments.

Okay, Joe might involve a bit of thought. But he ain’t progressive enough, so that Warren-Waters ticket will be really easy to nope out of.

The woman is dumb as a box of rocks.

You think? Seems to me that she's masterfully trolling Fox News. She let out that she can't afford a place in DC on her current zero income, and Fox practically fell over themselves to make fun of her. What a trap for them to jump into with both feet.

She really is though lol. Like, she's Trump levels of stupid mixed with Bernies rhetoric.

If she's the future of the Democratic party then the party is fucked.

Yeah, at least Trump seems to think his ideas through. I'll be the first to admit she just seems like she's in way over her head and doesn't really know what she's doing.

Which presents a rather interesting disconnect between the base and the establishment. Most right wingers I know nowadays are fully onboard with Trumps trade policies and want to try and protect American workers and business but the party itself still seems, as you've said, to be straight up neo-cons still.

Give it time and the affects of his tariffs will kick in. I'm pretty sure the tariff approach almost has no history of going well.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez...

One really had to be politically uneducated to consider her as anything other than openly incompetent.

Yes and no.

Mild tariffs actually did good things building native manufacturing/industry in a lot of the developing world, especially back in the Cold War era. But as a rule of thumb they are a big gamble sooo the odds are high that the ham-fisted approach Trump is taking will backfire.

He literally campaigned for Gary Johnson the whole time. I and many others can clearly tell you this, so stop trying to insinuate he's some sort of big MAGA supporter because he doesn't hate everything he does.

iirc a pretty great number of manufacturing jobs have cropped up since Trump became POTUS though. While I agree some of his tariff campaigns have been misguided going after China is great.

Hence the "Almost has no history of going well". I can't remember when, but I've heard this attempt Trump is doing has happened before and it crashed the economy.

I don't trust that it's going to last though. He's going overboard with the tariff approach on like everything. I actually already noticed the prices of wood for example when I worked at Lowes went up a LOT while I was there.

True, true. A large part of whether tariffs succeed or fail though comes from the reaction of trade partners. If someone like, say, Sweden, is informed that we have raised our tariffs on their cheese in step with theirs, and the matter is approached amicably instead of as a zero-sum game, the detrimental effects can be minimal.

But if you take a hostile route, like what happened during the protectionist era of the Great Depression began to bite, you can buy yourself a world of hurt and economic chaos.

Sadly I think the way we are going about it now we are more likely to reap the whirlwind than see anything good happen.

Oh yeah without a doubt. Going after close allies with random tariff campaigns is dumb and could be done in a much better way by just sitting down to discuss changes to trade deals with them. Like I've said before Trump is a move in the right direction imo but he's a raging dumbass in the process.

Yeah. It is one thing to call China out on its deliberately predatory tariff barriers and investment requirements, another to start slapping around the poor damn Canucks just because we like selling the US cheese.

They have just cause for that, the GOP does not. Abrahams is getting that seat stolen from her.

First off it’s Abrams not Abrahams.

Second she didn’t. Not illegally anyway. Also it’s still technically not done there’s still some 60,000 votes that need to be checked and counted. And if those 60k lower the vote enough before the 14 then there will be a runoff which she’s going to lose.
