I find it interesting that there is such focus on Florida where there is still counting going on, but not on Utah, where one house seat is still up. Though it looks like Utah has decided on yes for medical marijuana and yes for expanding Medicaid. Still waiting on results about the redistricting.

Just as I thought that the Republicans and the Democrats were satisfied with the midterm election's results and that all this tension was on a slight downslope...

They instantly throw themselves at eachother's necks again.

Since everyone forgot about her. Alexandria ocasio cortez won her election in a landslide.

I'm a huge fan of Alexandria Ocasio Cortez but honestly, her winning the general election doesn't mean all that much. That district is guaranteed Democratic, the primary was the real election, she was guaranteed her seat as soon as she beat Crowley.

At least the GOP is getting on board with things like protectionist economics which is proving popular in a number of circles and Trump at least is a nice break from ye olde religious conservatism. Sure not the entire party is going to agree with everything that happens and there will always be differing factions but if they found a better figurehead than Trump that could still whip up the base without the constant scandals a nationalist wing of the GOP could do quite well in the future, imo.

Perhaps, but methinks the resurgence of nationalism has a lot to do with a rejection of the neolib world order. I also think that the bulk of the GOP isnt particularly concerned with the Trumpist brand of nationalism and is mostly riding the coattails of 45 to achieve better electoral conditions. Methinks they'll go back to their free-trading neo-lib, or more accurately neo-con ways the moment Trump is out office, but now with the added benefit of breaking federal law to enforce more different federal laws.

A genuinely nationalist wing perhaps, I doubt they'd follow through with it though. Most of the GOP appears to dislike 45's stance on trade.


Which presents a rather interesting disconnect between the base and the establishment. Most right wingers I know nowadays are fully onboard with Trumps trade policies and want to try and protect American workers and business but the party itself still seems, as you've said, to be straight up neo-cons still.
