they can sell it, but you'd have no good reason to buy unless you were either trying to mislead people (which is fine as a relatively harmless prank) or you work for NASA/have friends or family in NASA

I mean... otherwise I can't imagine why you would buy it. You have no interest to do free advertisement for NASA and I can't imagine the price is even that good for the clothing.

Most of those shirts are $10 to $15. Nobody gives a shit about having a NASA shirt.

Honestly very few people come up to me when I’m wearing one of my shirts that says army, army strong, or the like

so you automatically think: "They would actually spend money on useless things from gift shops?"

No I just think they went to the gift shop.

I mean, I don't like to automatically assume people are the type who would make bad calculations and buy things for no good reason... I usually start with an assumption that they are generally very sound consumer-wise...

I don’t assume anything about why people bought things or how expensive shit is.

If you have a special affinity for the institution such as relatives who went there or intercollegiate sports teams, I'd see nothing wrong with it. If you wear it because you want to fake that you went to a prestigious institution, then that's just pretentious.

From my handicapped view of social norms, I see it as okay if you support/agree with the school or its team. However, it's weird when your Alma Mater is such and such Division I school and you're wearing its rival's shirt.

I, personally, refuse to wear a shirt of a college I don't attend. In fact, I consider donning any piece of clothing to be an endorsement of the shirt's message (or finding what it says funny), so I don't wear things I don't agree with.

Right now, I'm wearing a shirt I got for Christmas that says "[] REPUBLICAN PARTY | [] DEMOCRAT PARTY | [X] PIZZA PARTY". I wear it in spite of being a lifelong Republican because I find it funny and I like pizza.

I have heard the argument made its inappropriate to wear appeal from a school you didn't go to as it somehow is a insult to those who actually attended and is pretentious. I have also heard its duping people into thinking you are attending or did attend.

I don't see the issue with it though it might depend on the school. Harvard or Stanford is a world renowned institution held in high esteem the world over. It shows you support the university as an institution. I don't think its duping anyone.

I find that very hard to believe considering their products are sold all over the world including Canada. It was already explained to you it’s a company that builds tractors.

Should I not wear a John Deere hat because I don’t work for the company or have never bought any of their products?

I would say No in a qualified sense, in the sense that I personally wouldn't have a problem with it since I personally have no preconceived notions about "John Deere." I had no idea it was a company of any kind until today.

Now that I know, I'm still not all that concerned because it doesn't come across as very prestigious. Its not like "Harvard" or "NASA."

I have lived in Canada, but I'm not in the business of buying tractors you know? So why would I know what John Deere is?

In fact... how do you know?

are you involved in the tractor business?
