If I met someone who wore a Harvard cap and they didn’t go and later this fact was coaxed out... I would definitely frown and give them a quizzical look

How is it being deceptive? I bought the Harvard cap from a store in Qunicy Market. Should they not have been selling it according to you?

Why would you frown and give a quizzical look?

Id feel mislead; I’d also be wondering “... why”

Not saying we need to do anything legislation wise though

Just a small cause for frowns

why is it dumb? What's wrong with me having a Harvard hat? Is it also wrong of me to have a John Deere cap even though i don't work for the company and have never owned a tractor or to have a NASA jacket even though I don't work for them?

I personally cannot comprehend why people care so much about what others are wearing. It seems honestly seems a complete non-issue to me.

Why is it any of your business? All you'd have to is ask Did you go to Harvard?

Is it wrong of me to wear a John Deere hat even though i've never owned a tractor or wear a NASA jacket or hat even though I don't work for NASA?

I may go to Michigan State next year but I have no problem donning Michigan apparel. Probably because I liked them during college football.

I have a pair of pants with the Rutgers University logo on it and I'm not even graduated from high school yet. No one seems to mind.

What do you mean “my business?” All I said was that I would feel misled that’s all. Nothing more.

It wouldn’t occur to me to ask at all because I would assume that they went or are somehow affiliated. Otherwise, why would they act as a free advertisement for the school? To my knowledge Harvard doesn’t pay people to wear advertisement clothing.

If you wore a John Deere clothing I wouldn’t be misled/confused since I don’t know who that is... he’s related to nasa I take it?

I wouldn’t mind either

But if I saw/noticed it, I would assume a connection to the university

If you then said otherwise, I would be a bit confused

I've worn Syracuse and Ohio State stuff to High School before and only one person stopped to talk about college football which I have little understanding of. Those were mostly souvenirs.

Of course now that I'm in a college that is neither of those I don't wear it anymore.

John Deere is a tractor company based in Illinois.

Is it wrong to wear a NASA jacket or hat despite not working for NASA?

No, I've seen loads of people do it.

I just find it very mildly distasteful. But not enough to really mind it when other people do it.

You didn't attend Harvard, did you? Why would you want an hat from them?

when I see a shirt with the words NASA I don't think "he's a taxpayer"...

I think: "Oh, he works for NASA or has family/friends in NASA; PERHAPS he's studying something space related"

I would be mildly shocked/surprised should they reveal otherwise

it wouldn't necessarily be a deal breaker but I would feel a bit misled

Well the thing is that the moon was formed from the ejection material of the earth when another planet collided with it billions of years ago so geologically speaking they're very similar.

I wouldn’t think that at all. NASA is cool. I have a big interest in the cosmos and astrophysics.

According to you the planetarium in my city should not be selling NASA clothing?

they can sell it, but you'd have no good reason to buy unless you were either trying to mislead people (which is fine as a relatively harmless prank) or you work for NASA/have friends or family in NASA

I mean... otherwise I can't imagine why you would buy it. You have no interest to do free advertisement for NASA and I can't imagine the price is even that good for the clothing.

so you automatically think: "They would actually spend money on useless things from gift shops?"

I mean, I don't like to automatically assume people are the type who would make bad calculations and buy things for no good reason... I usually start with an assumption that they are generally very sound consumer-wise...
