Should Weed be Legalized Recreationally

Postby Rota2001 » Sat Oct 27, 2018 10:43 pm

I strongly believe weed should be legalized for recreational use all around the globe. While authoritarian people are against weed because of its effects on employment and the average intelligence, these are both false. The only reason why it has effects on employment is because workers are caught smoking and being fired. If it was legalized, then this wouldn't happen and employment rates for that group of people would go back up.

Troll logic at its finest. I agree with your point that legalizing weed doesn't mean everyone's going to start 420ing though.

Cannabis should be regulated for recreational use in exactly the same way as alcohol in your respective country

It is certainly safer to use than alcohol or tobacco

There is nothing wrong with weed, so yes. No reason why it should be illegal while tobacco and alcohol arent.

Yes.

You'll need a bit more in that first post though mate.

Following that reasoning, LSD/acid should be legal as well

Absolutely. Nobody has died from weed. And yet most countries ban it while allowing alcohol and cigarettes, which kill or cripple millions of people every year. Banning weed clearly doesn't work either.

Shouldn't it? Isn't LSD both non-toxic and non-addictive?

Everything should be legalized, at least on the possession side. I'm not saying I'd be fine with boxes of fentanyl being sold at Walmart, but there should be no criminal penalties for personal use or personal possession of a drug. Weed should be totally legally from all sides though. So should psychedelics, but they should only be sold in pure, controlled doses to adults.

It should be legalised, but not recreationally. Legislation is a serious business, and it should be legalised professionally. No beach balls on the floor of parliament.

I do think cannabis and several other recreational drugs should be legal and I broadly support decriminalizing possession for personal use for all drugs.

However there's a concern that people see 'less dangerous than alcohol or tobacco' as harmless. Cannabis isn't harmless, it is a habit forming substance that can lead to problems for those who use it regularly. By all means legalise it, but let's be clear here; less harmful than alcohol and tobacco is a very low bar.

As long as it’s properly regulated there’s no reason for Marijuana to not be legal.

No, users are more often than not societal failures. Tobacco not really, alcohol highly varied.

No benefit from doing so.

Apart from

1) Reducing a criminal market
2) Creating jobs through a new legal market
3) Taxing the crap out of a new legal market
4) Making sure less people needlessly disappear into expensive prison

Legalising weed is such a no-brainer.

Have any sources to back this up?

Also, I really don't care if you perceive a benefit to drugs being legal or not - it's a question of whether an individual owns their own body, or if the state owns it. As far as I'm concerned, I am sovereign over my body and can put whatever chemical I want inside it, that is not an act which brings harm to another person. So when the state claims ownership over my body by telling me what I can't do with, I deny the legitimacy of such laws and live as I wish to.

I'm for legalizing almost all drugs, so yes, I do think weed should be completely legal.

Oh yeah no doubt. It is just there seems to be a bit of a trend among some avocates of legalization to act as if it is harmless, which it isn't. Like anything else, moderation I think is key.
