Democratic backsliding really is all the rage these days lol

Under a normal administration a quick injection of CIA air-launched precision stealth freedom would probably be the logical course but this is Trump so I'm sure he'll instead make things worse

I'll give you two months to the contrary, considering how much Bolsonaro loves to wank it to the idea of military juntas and far-right dictatorships, especially South American ones.

Then it's pretty clear you haven't given much good a look into the policies which he advocates for, which are pretty clearly far-right, anti-democratic, militarist, nationalist, and so on and so forth.

Here's some other gems of his, since you seem to be on the willful ignorance train:

-"Pinochet should have killed more people."
-"The only mistake of the dictatorship was torturing and not killing."
-"I'm in favor of the military regime."
-"There is no doubt. I would launch a coup on the same day. [Congress] doesn't work and I'm sure that at least 90% of the population would applaud. Congress nowadays does nothing; it votes only for what the president wants. If he's who rules, who decides and who gloats above the Congress, then let the coup be launched, let it be a dictatorship."
-"If one's son begins acting kind of gay, then when he is spanked he'll change his behavior."
-"I would be incapable of loving a gay son. I wouldn't be a hypocrite. I prefer that he die in an accident than show up with some guy with a moustache."
-"I will not fight against it nor discriminate, but if I see two men kissing on the street, I'll beat them up."
-"It's my advice and I do it: I evade all the taxes I can."
-"Since we are a Christian country, God above all. This history of a secular state doesn't exist, no. The state is Christian and the minority that is against it can leave. Let's make a country for majority! The minority must bow to the majority. Law must exist to defend the majority! The minority suits itself [to the law] or just disappears."
-"We're going to shoot all the PT supporters in Acre."
-"These red outlaws will be banished from our homeland. It will be a cleanup the likes of which has never been seen in Brazilian history."

This. We can be vigilant about our gains and progress made over the past decades without resorting to "sky is falling" rhetoric. As for me, based from what I can gather, I'd rather that Haddad win. I can't blame the Brazilians if they thought that Bolsonaro is a surer bet in effecting positive change (doubt it).

Haddad however, seems more content with resorting to buzzwords and ideological cliches, thinking that it is enough for voters to vote for him. There's the perception that as far as his party is concerned, what he says and the facts on the ground do not match.

I never said he was fucking Hitler, thank you very much.

The Hitlerishness of a person or lack thereof, however, still doesn't preclude somebody from being a fucking Fascist, which Bolsonaro clearly is.

Hell, even just six days ago (from GCCS's link) he literally said he's ready to begin a full-on political purge. He's a Fascist and he's a fucking threat to democracy.

Yeah, no. I accept that hard times require difficult choices. However, if that is your reasoning, then this is a disgrace. Imagine, you come to the conclusion that things need to get worse before they get better, and instead for voting for a party that would distribute those burdens at least somewhat equally, you go with the party that places those burdens on already vulnerable minorities. Yeah, that is exceptionally brave of the Brazilian electorate, to accept that things must get harder, and to place that burden on those who cannot defend themselves.
