The only problem is the risk of Swimmer's Itch when the water is contaminated with parasites. I only ever got that once when I was a child; it was one of the most unbearable sensations that I have ever experienced. The water in Muggelsee by contrast was very clean, I didn't have that problem there.
The lake where I like to swim most likely doesn't have that problem, most likely because it's in the middle of nowhere.
