I mean from a US perspective I'd rather deal with an isolationist Japan than an imperialist one, so at least there's that... :p

Though ideally they could just stay our ally and find a middle way, since that'd be the most useful scenario and probably ideal for them too

Someone should inform pearl divers and puppeteers that they're an elite then.

They're both Latins, so it evens out.

We should really try to bring back the use of the term "Latin" as an ethnonym. It sounds far better and less cringy than "Latinx".

Rei, what do you think of the Tokugawa period? Are you suggesting that Japan should have remained a medieval feudal monarchy?

Latinx sounds like a knock-off brand of fake fur. We should just keep following the gender rules of actual latin languages- latino/a, with o for mixed groups or indeterminates.

Latinx is really cringy, and ungrammatical in both English and Spanish. The only reason to use it is to signal wokeness.
We are free to believe that this is the century of authority, a century tending to the right, a Fascist century. If the XIXth century was the century of the individual (liberalism implies individualism) we are free to believe that this is the "collective" century, and therefore the century of the State.

What does "latinx" even mean?
Pro: (Pan-)Islamism--Palestine--RBG--Choice to an extent--Giving land back to Native Americans--East--Afrika--etc.
Anti: US gov--West gov--Capitalism--Imperialism/Colonialism--Racism/White Supremacy--Secularism getting into everything--Western 'intervention' in the East--Zionism--etc.

This means we can use the word, just not in a bad way. So don't punish anyone who uses kafir.

Considering that the mid-to-late Tokugawa Japan was a Neo-Confucian state which persecuted those accused of heresy for straying from the "orthodoxy" of the Chu Hsi school, I think that my stance is painfully obvious.

It basically sounds like a way to call someone a nigger with the added benefit of making an already hard to understand language (to me) even harder. Genderless words are appropriate when needed, but trying to eradicate how a language has operated for quite some time...is unironically imperialist.

The social justice crowd seems to like this [x] thing. Eg. Latinx, womxn, folx are all spellings I've seen. X is an edgy letter, so it looks countercultural.

As a Spaniard, I would like to add a point. At least in Spain, there is a growing acceptance, both from governments and the everyday people, to degender the language, at least while writing on official forms, social media, and various other aspects of life. An example: Chic@s (Yes, the @ is purposeful.) is considered the neutral version now. Mind you, while speaking, it doesn’t work and we default back to the male gender. However, on social media, the use of “x” is more common. Todxs So, it’s not as baseless as you anglophones make it out to be.

If X is an edgy letter, do they say "sex" or "sxx"?

But seriously, I've never seen any of those outside of Latinx, and that's only because English kind of expects a gender-neutral plural for that kind of thing, like how we adopted "them" for the same effect.
