Saudi Arabia has said the journalist Jamal Khashoggi, who disappeared after visiting the country’s consulate in Istanbul on 2 October, is dead.

The news, which cited preliminary findings from an official investigation, was announced on state television on Friday. It said a fight broke out between Khashoggi and people who met him in the consulate, leading to the death of the reporter.

Khashoggi was a US permanent resident who wrote for the Washington Post.

It was also announced that Gen Ahmed al-Asiri, an intelligence official linked to the case, had been dismissed. Eighteen Saudi nationals were said to have been arrested.

More details soon …

Good luck painting a plausible picture of this, House of Saud Sawed. No single bullet theories are gonna work with a fucking fist fight. A fist fight?

Only an idiot would believe that would lead to an apparent planned dismemberment.

Even idiots don’t believe it..

“To say that I am skeptical of the new Saudi narrative about Mr Khashoggi is an understatement,” the Republican senator Lindsey Graham said in a series of tweets.

He continues..

“First we were told Mr Khashoggi supposedly left the consulate and there was blanket denial of any Saudi involvement. Now, a fight breaks out and he’s killed in the consulate, all without knowledge of Crown Prince.”

Or put another way..

Samantha Power, the former US ambassador to the United Nations, said in a tweet: “They don’t get it. Shifting from bald-face lies (‘Khashoggi left consulate’) to faux condemnation (of a ‘rogue operation’) to claiming the wolf will credibly investigate what he did to the hen … will convince nobody.”

These are unproven and libellous allegations against the Saudi government. I bet the guy will show up alive and well in a few weeks. Maybe he just got sick of working for the crappy Washington Post.

I mean, Saudi Arabia admitted he died in their consulate, arrested 18 Saudi citizens, and removed the Deputy head of Intelligence. Not entirely libelous, methinks.

The thing is we already know this is the line the US was pushing for MBS to use.. now we’ll have Trump saying something along the lines of ‘this was a rogue group of people who randomly chartered a private plane, flew to Turkey, entered a consulate and murdered someone with no official knowledge at all, so we can’t very well sanction a country for that, let’s move on shall we?’

This is like Trump sending ‘Mad Dog’ Mattis to bone saw a journalist in Moscow and denying he knew anything about it.

Apparently this is what occurred..

The source also said orders were “aggressively interpreted” and subsequent instructions were “more and more unspecific” resulting in the death and the attempt to cover it up.

As I said earlier it’s the ‘will no one rid me of this meddlesome priest’ approach..

This is an instructive video for evil leaders to watch in terms of being clear.. https://youtu.be/U6cake3bwnY

Yeah. Like move on to this oddly timed Caravan that just happens to get a perfect photo op leaving Guatemala through a too narrow gate. How marvelously convenient. Lights... Cameras... ACTION!

Not Mattis. He probably wouldn't screw it up. How about Trump sends a couple NY mechanics along with Jarred, Eric and Don Jr (aka Moe, Larry & Curly) who are tasked with supervising the hit? :o

Trump has said that the excuse his administration conceived as an out and subsequently pressured MBS to use is ‘credible’

Just to underline that credibility..

Karen Attiah, global opinions editor at the newspaper where Khashoggi was a columnist, wrote she was “freshly angry all over again” at the statement, in a series of tweets.

“What I hate about the statement is the use of the passive construction to imply this was an accident. Jamal didn’t just “die during a struggle”. Khashoggi was killed. By Saudi men. In a consulate. His life was taken from him.”

“Khashoggi was a 60 year old man. What sort of equal “fight” would he have had against 15 other men? And who brings a bone saw to a “discussion”?! The stupidity of the Saudi explanation is mind boggling.”

“And we are supposed to believe, that Mohammed Bin Salman had no knowledge of this, even though his right hand man has been implicated, and a team of 15 men flew in on private planes entered a consulate on foreign soil to carry this out?”

They have admitted mbs wanted him back, and it was essentially a " voluntary " return they were after. As long as there is no proof that mbs said "or else" I think the long term effect will be minimal.

Will see more information come out in due time, what I’m struggling to find is motive. This was certainly planned, but who orchestrated it? From what I understand Khashoggi was on ok terms with Saudi Arabia, and isn’t really a enemy of the state. I’m banking on that Khashoggi was killed by old rivals/enemies who knew he would visit, rather than the Saudi Arabian state killing him.

Although its pretty clear, they have been covering these killers for atleast a temporary time, probably hoping to think of a way to fan the flames away from them. If a Saudi Arabian Consulate isnt safe, then who’d be comfortable to enter another after this? Saudi Arabia’s actions strike me as damage control, although this is simply speculation and (this situation) will be hopefully clarified in due time.

Yes, typically old rivals can enter a consulate, tell the consular general to stay out of it or there’ll be recriminations back home and proceed to chop someone up.

Old rivals who happen to be composed of the personal security staff for MBS by pure coincidence.

Anyone who thinks the state had anything to do with this is just clutching at straws and should put away their tin foil hat.

It’s ‘credible’.

I’m rather neutral on this case, mate. What really irritates me is the lack of motive, on this. It does not benefit Saudi Arabia to do this action, nor is it logical considering on the chances of getting away with it. Unless the benefits outway the costs, it is Saudi Arabia’s best interest to not kill a journalist.

It may very well be the state, but the key issue to this is motive, which none have been really revealed at this point. Thus the assumption that the individuals acted alone, can be more probable. But I may very well be wrong ofcourse, and some unseen motive led the state to conduct murder. Just do your best to not toss salt, before everything comes out.

This is the middle east, he is a writter, Cutting off a few fingers to get compliance is ironic, no?

And the important part , is there enough doubt on mbs giving the kill order to not force him out of office? I was reading an article that said the king was getting involved.
