That's the sad truth.

Geopolitics takes precedence over virtue.

I anticipate more Saudi chaos to occur. They know they have a geopolitical stranglehold over a large number of countries for oil needs.

Indeed.

Iran also isn't a good replacement.

They're trying to use oil to ensure they grab us by the balls.

And the Israelis while friendly to the US are not popular in the region. It's like a minefield where the three countries with enough wealth to field a strong army and none of them are trusted enough in the region.

The concept of Trump standing on 5th Avenue and shooting someone without consequence seems to have been taken as policy by countries on a global scale.

I'm not inclined to believe anything the Turkish government says, but the Saudis are smarter than to murder someone in a consulate. My opinion is that he is alive but is likely being held in extra-judicial detention in Saudi Arabia itself before they execute him.

Donald Trump has expressed 'concern' about the case.

Turkey has asked the Saudis to prove that Khashoggi left the consulate as they claimed.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-saudi-politics-dissident/turkey-tells-saudis-to-prove-missing-journalist-left-consulate-u-s-urges-saudis-to-support-inquiry-idUSKCN1MI0X5?il=0

The consulate seems to have a lot of security cameras, so if true it shouldn't be hard to prove.
Everything is intertwinkled

Anywhere.

Not like the cops can come in and look for it.

Though that said, the SAS were given permission to enter the Iranian Embassy by someone, so maybe there are extenuating circumstances.

For example, the Soviet embassy in Berlin had a torture dungeon.

Fears are growing over missing Washington Post writer Jamal Khashoggi, after Turkish officials said they believe he has been murdered.
Mr Khashoggi, a Saudi national, went missing after visiting the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on Tuesday.
A Turkish official told the BBC that initial investigations indicated he was murdered there.
Saudi Arabia has denied the accusations, saying it is "working to search for him".
The Washington Post said it would be a "monstrous and unfathomable act" if he had been killed.
The BBC's Istanbul correspondent, Mark Lowen, said it would plunge Turkish-Saudi relations into an unprecedented crisis.
Turkish officials have opened an investigation and have been speaking to the media on condition of anonymity.
They have not given any evidence for their claim, nor suggested how he might have been killed.

The forces of tyranny are getting bolder, see also the disappearance of the head of Interpol in China. If Turkey's allegations do prove to be true, and the Saudi response does seem to suggest they have kidnapped him at the very least, then I ask once again if these are the sort of people Western democracies should be involved with. I think not.

Are you saying the King ordered this?

The killing was a royal command?

It's Saudi Arabia. Could have been any number of princes and whatnot.

Crimes committed by Muslims will be proof of a pan-Islamic plot and Islam's inherent evil. On the other hand, crimes committed by non-Muslims will merely be the acts of mentally ill lone wolves who do not represent their professed belief system at all.
The probability of someone secretly participating in homosexual acts is directly proportional to the frequency and loudness of their publicly professed disapproval and/or disgust for homosexuality.
If Donald Trump accuses an individual of malfeasance without evidence, it is almost a certainty either he or someone associated with him has in fact committed that very same malfeasance to a greater degree.

He left the consulate, but it's likely he was taken back to Saudi Arabia. For what reasons I cannot know.

The Saudi government claims that he arrived, filed his paperwork, and then left without incident.

His partner, waiting outside in the car, claimed to have been waiting for at least eight hours since he entered, with no sign from him. She claims he instructed her to contact an influential Turkish official if he did not leave the embassy.

I still can't fathom why journalists, knowing anything at all about dictatorships like SA, continue to frequent it. If I knew I was entering somewhere I wasn't guaranteed any kind of liberties, and would at any point be assassinated for exercising those liberties, I would only do so as part of a force deliberately excising that government. There is a point where my admiration for the bravery of those willing to speak truth to power is overtaken by a distinct feeling of exasperated apathy. My sympathies to his family, of course.

He was Saudi Arabian, for a start.

He went to the Saudi embassy in Turkey, in order to officialise his divorce and nullify his Saudi marriage, so that he could remarry.

I wonder if the staff in the Consulate are shitting themselves right now?
