California passes gender-quota laws

California’s finally hit that next level of liberalism, government interference in business to ensure equality. Now, this is obviously a major win for the SJW lobby, not so much for anyone already on those boards. Beyond the normal criticism of “sexism!”, which I think someone else can handle much better than me, I think this sets a dangerous precedent. Seriously Jerry Brown, what were you thinking?

This is nowhere near progressive enough. He should've demanded all boards have 50% women minimum. You know, as a start.

I'm a big fan of hiring a person based on whether or not a person is qualified for the position.

I’m quit et liberal, but having gender-quotas is much different then having anti-sexist laws, woman are good I’m many things, but if you have good men on lots of jobs and have to settle for a half-job by woman, that’s bad, it’s also vice versa

This is just horrible, ideologically driven idiocy.

What do you do if companies don't do that already?

This doesn't seem like a good idea. This is why California gets mocked. I get a lot of corporate boards are old white dudes, and it'd be nice if that could change. But forcing it? That's not going to help.

If you don't know how the board of directors work and if they're qualified or not you should not say whether there should be a quota. Usually only men are interested in this stuff and have experience and there are some women but anything proposing 50% females is too strong

But if your merit based hiring system fails to produce population proportionate diversity then clearly you're discriminating. *nods*

You know there are women on corporate boards? If there were only men interested, then there would be many less women.

How about quotas for ethnic minorities and other groups as well?

I'm no fan of this system, but let's not pretend that companies are anything but hotbeds of nepotism in the upper ranks.

That is just stupid. If women aren't competing, don't force them to. I hate how these neoliberals claim to be for the common worker but are so obsessed with pushing more people into the depths of the workforce.

I see another reason why California is bad. Why do sensible people even still live there? Is is because they don't have enough money to move to any of the 49 better states?

He's not wrong though. Jerry Brown is also demanding a high speed train in California... across private property. What could possibly go wrong?

California has a string of decent Governors: "meh"
California has one really bad Governor: "bleh, worst state, what is wrong with you... etc, etc, etc."
