Ireland's blasphemy law is not even intended to force people to abide by the rules of their own religion.

It should be.

It's not. It never was. That is not even an option. It's a referendum, we can vote Yes or No, that's it.

Fuck that. Enforcing religious belief through criminalizing lapses in abiding by religious tenets is just monstrous. Belief enforced by pressure from a boot on one's neck is no true belief at all.

Clearly his NS nation would work exactly as how he would imagine it in real life with no problems whatsoever and it would be perfect.

No.

Because then people could be punished if they decided they didn't believe anymore (apostasy is an offence in many religions). So no. No country's business should ever be to force or even encourage people to follow their faith.

Nah man, convert to Discordianism. It's a chaos based religion that holds that every man, woman, and child on Earth is a =POPE=, and as such are all authorised to completely rework the Discordian faith in any way they see fit.

It is. It's very real. You can punish a Muslim for drinking but not a Christian, since it's not against their religion. Check out Al Kafirun in the Quran.

I meant in the hypothetical situation of a religious Muslim -governed nation. Sorry for the misunderstanding. So it doesn't work the same way in Christianity?

Either the ones being punished did something so horrible like murder or the Iranian government is doing it wrong.

Well my Catholic upbringing said that you sinned, you confessed, a preist gave you penance like Hail Marys or donating and then that was it.

Discordiansim, atheism, Pastafarianism, Jediism... God knows I'd declare myself as belonging to literally anything but Christianity, in the unlikely event I had to follow every law in the Bible.

I suspect many, many other people -- of all religions -- woild do the same.

Being an Atheist is literally a crime (can and often does get you executed),
Being a Baha'i is almost like being a Jew in Pre-Concentration Camps Nazi Germany,
Being a Jew is like being a Jew in Pre-Concentration Camps Nazi Germany,
There was a 8 months long debate in the Guardian Assembly of Iran, recently (literally last year) on "can a Zoroastrian represent Zoroastrians in the Islamic Assembly of Iran?" (The answer, almost a year after the election in question, was yes. The Zoroastrian in question still isn't allowed in the I.A.I.).
And these are the recognized religions. (Well, apart from Baha'is, which aren't really recognized as a minority religion either). Don't even get me started on the non-recognized religions.
