This means we can use the word, just not in a bad way. So don't punish anyone who uses kafir.

Might as well have an Irish "Let's spit on the graves of our Catholic ancestors" Referendum at this point

Never change, secularists. You've done a lot better at destroying Irish Catholicism than when the English gave it a try

Not just here, but in the series of referendums that have been voted on. Pretty much every Irishman before the 90s would be horrified.

Doubt it. And im sure plenty of irish people from before the 90s supported the past two referendums relating to SSM and Abortion.

Its a stupid outdated bollocks law that even the damn church has said is obsolete.

I'm going off the referendum that outlawed abortion in the 80s. If you want, these latest amendments would horrify almost every Irishman before the 70s.

When someone calls a law "outdated," that's a very good indication that their ancestors would disagree, hence the spitting on graves comment. For over a thousand years the Irish have respected God in their laws, but the secularists are putting an end to that.

If the law were explicitly Catholic, then it would be unconstitutional.

I mean, I'm mostly neutral on the issue, because Ireland has far greater problems right now, and this just seems like a tactic to distract the public and earn the government some popularity points.

The abuse is obviously very bad, but from the Catholic standpoint that used to be inseparable from the Irish identity, bad actions by clergy do not justify apostasy, secularization, and abortion.

I'm not at all familiar with the political demographics of Ireland, so I apologize for that.

You can be a catholic and a secularist, and you can still be a catholic, support getting rid of a stupid law such as this, and respect your god in the process. Ireland is a secular country and has been for a long time and most people are still catholic and will continue to still be catholic after this.

And that's where I disagree. Blasphemy laws aren't stupid, and the people that instituted the blasphemy laws didn't think they were stupid either. Until recently, the majority of Ireland didn't think they were stupid. This is why I say it's comparable to dishonoring one's ancestors, because a long, long, chain of Irishmen would be appalled at getting rid of a blasphemy law.
