The only person with any chance of winning is a self-proclaimed socialist. Ireland doesn't really have any right-wing party of any note at all, unless you'd count neoliberalism as right wing (which, in fairness, many would).

Fine Gael used to be right-wing, but now the main right wing parties would be Renua Ireland and Human Dignity Alliance.

So one thing Pat Kenny brought up in the debate last night was whether or not a president should engage in protest, in civil disobedience, and in illegal activities. He asked which of the candidates had been involved in the recent protests, and noted that Michael D had been absent, for example.
So I suppose I have three main questions:
1. In a strictly hypothetical sense, should the president of Ireland involve themself in protests, such as marching on the street in mass movements with other protestors.
2. Again in a hypothetical sense, should the president of Ireland engage in civil disobedience, including illegal acts, which they are constitutionally protected to do.
3. Should the president of Ireland involve themself in the occupation of private property alongside other activists, in movements like Take Back the City, such as the occupation of 34 Frederick Street, in order to highlight the housing crisis, despite the fact that this would be illegal.

Obviously, my answer to all the above is an unequivocal 'yes,' but I'm interested in what other people have to say.
