I used to have a blue 1972 Mercury Comet with the 250 cid inline 6. Blue, power everything, sunroof. It was a great car. I sold it cheap shortly before I left for germany... I want that car back :meh:

the perfect car, runs on rails, or some other form of guidway, can be quickly and easily m.u.'d and un m.u.'d with each other, automatically routes to everyone on board's destination code they punch in when they board, and is propelled by non-combustion sources of energy. it would also have the smallest mass and form factor sufficient to perform its function. it should also of course, be pleasing to the eye, fun and comfortable to ride in, and be easy and inexpensive to maintain. it would also have a fail safe system to bring it to a stop to prevent impact with unexpected obstacles such as large life forms crossing the track.

it need not look like an airplane, a miniature trolley would work just fine. or even a little like today's mini-vans.

somewhere i have pictures of such objects, which, though rare in today's world, are occasionally built and do exist. in addition to the images i've rendered of the concepts of them inside my head. those i know i've linked to before, in other car and transportation threads.

That's called a train. And it is not a car. They have such things in Europe.

i think you missed the part about form factor, and a.i. aided dispatching, but yes "train", in a fairly nontraditional sense is one form this can take, but is by no means limited to.

and yes, europe is one of the places where such things exist. there really isn't anyplace they couldn't.
any place that isn't ruled over by thoughtless capricious aggressiveness, like that of the blind circular pursuit of symbolic value for its own sake.

yes the "perfect car" IS "a train/trolley/..."

Well the real and not imaginary thing which could and does exist in-spite of peoples thoughtless capricious aggressiveness and blind circular pursuit of symbolic value for its own sake, which best fits the description provided is called a train.

I still liked my comet though. It's better for making out in... I mean you can do it in the train but ppl. will stare.

A tank such as the Leopard 2 will be very nice if its an anarchy. No worries for traffic jams(Pancakes, anyone?), and you get a huge-ass cannon to fire at random stuff. Of course, there's the issue of cost for fuel and the tank itself...

A tank is also not a car. It is a vehicle... but not a car.

Srlsly, why is this hard. We have ppl. all like yeah this bike is the best car. Or a train is the best car... and now a tank.

A car is a powered four wheeled un-armoured vehicle capable of driving on roads.

A car is also not a jet or a robot a hot air balloon (as bad ass as all those things are).

Just let people like us fantasize a bit. Anyways, if that's how you define a car, then hovercars are technically not cars.

Here's another vehicle that's on my list (it's a one-off by Chip Foose, and won the prestigious Ridler award in 2005). It's called Impression.

Gun control is like trying to solve drunk driving by making it harder for sober people to own cars.

Yes, I know all too well what you think.

I, on the other hand, would bitterly resist such a move. Fortunately, any "Hay guyz let's 'recycle' every car ever!" plan has an extraordinarily low probability of ever passing, so I'm content with that.

Don't get me wrong; I'm willing to lend a helping hand and all, but unreasonable demands will be ignored, and possibly ridiculed if they're sufficiently asinine.
