I dunno. I mean, I agree I wouldn’t pay him that much, but this deal doesn’t kick in until 2022. Ten years down the line the 45 mil range might be more in the market. And for a few years at least they’ve got so much talent that it should be fine. They’ll have to draft well in the future, but Mahomes is just so damn good that...I mean, does it matter?

Agreed. The Chiefs are going to have to be willing to play a lot of rookies and vet minimum guys. Ten years from now my Chiefs will have Pat, but not nearly the level of offensive playmakers around him, or guys to block for him, or much of a defense.

Still, I'm glad we have him and that he wants to be a Chief for practically his whole career.

Wow wow wow now, Tannehill was nothing short of elite last season. His playoff numbers look bad but that’s because they didn’t have to put the ball in the air, Henry was unstoppable. Now, I don’t think Tannehill is elite, but last season he played like it.

Although I do agree. You have to have a quarterback. It’s the most important position in sports.

That’s insane. 45 million a year average with a max of 503 million!? I’ve never seen anything like this. Jerzy, have you? Did they do contracts differently before I started watching? I mean wow.

Oh indeed they did. Players got the short end of the stick for decades. But there was the dynamic in the 1960s when the two leagues (AFL & NFL) existed simultaneously and a bidding war ensued. That's what caused the merger which the then NFL owners thought would end the bidding war. But along came Free Agency in the mid 70s and toppled their apple cart. Today's bidding war is confined to teams within one league but that's of no importance now. The same dynamic and fear that existed in the 60's is at work here and way way more. IMO the Chiefs have completely lost their minds (but I don't know the details of the contract). Especially when considering the pandemic and it's effect on the future revenues of all professional sports.

They obviously are dead sure PM is the future TB. TB was almost indestructible for 20 years and he's still at it. That's the g.o.a.t. we are talking about. PM has a long way to go before he's proven he can be another TB. Especially the part where he's that durable plus also willing to renegotiate his contract to get a better team around him. Plus Andy Reid probably isn't gonna be around for him another 17 years. But this all conjecture, except the part about the contract which on the surface seems nuts.
