The owner of the Harlem Globetrotters owns the Washington Generals name and has recently stated he'd sell the name to Snyder.
It is rumored Snyder owns the rights to the name Washington Warriors. If true, that may be where this is headed.
Back in late 1995 the Indy Colts owner, Bozo Bob Irsay, offered Art Modell the Colts name for $25 million. He turned him down. Now if that offer is still good with his sonny Jim then Snyder could buy the name and we'd have the Colts back in Maryland except they'd be the Washington Colts. Then we could speculate on what we'd name Irsay's team. Boi, oh boi, would I relish that opportunity!
The Indianapolis Pilgrims.
Because they literally arrived on the Mayflower.
That's a good one, even though it was only their equipment, furniture, files and trophys (none won by the Irsay) etc in the vans. Oh, and Bozo Bob's liquor cabinet which I believe the contents of which needed several trucks.
In Baltimore they were locally known as the Indianapolis Horse Thieves for years after the move. That's one of the kinder names.
If they did need a new name, the Indy Racers would fit them better than Indy Colts anyway. The idea of Colts running at the Indy 500 is totally barbaric.
