You'll be surprised too. Those folks that don't think COVID is a big concern are a continually shrinking number as more and more of them get all the facts, change their minds and realize the dangers of this pandemic as it spreads everyplace. Meanwhile don't hold your breath for a working vaccine. That's bc of the other six coronaviruses known to infect humans... no vaccine has yet been found for any of them. I wish I had better news to tell you. Especially since I am in the high risk group. :(

I'm on the complete opposite side of everything you just said. Literally not concerned whatsoever. The closest its gotten to me is 2 degrees of seperation (i.e. I know someone who knows someone), and they were 80 years old and survived. Granted, that's annecdotal evidence, but this thing just isn't that bad. Extremely asymptomatic, almost everyone who's even gotten it will never know, which is why there is no vaccine for the other coranavirus strains. If it were up to me, everything would be open without restrictions. Buuut I am also in the high risk group, so gang gang lol.

Right. I don't think Davis is short enough $$$ for any American to give one shit about. The notion is really utterly ridiculous.

I think Davis is going to have trouble paying for that stadium. If anything, being in debt as much as he (reportedly) is should be a scary picture for Americans who probably don't make that much in their lives. Granted, he also made a city practically pay for his stadium, so I don't feel too bad either.

Ran, this disease can cause ARDS. It literally can flood your lungs with fluid. You cannot have people in the hospital with you when you have ARDS. You have to be sedated, with a tube down your lungs, and you have a 40% chance of survival. This is from an article from a doctor in New Orleans. I have parents who work in the medical field. They have seen how hard this disease can make people drop. Just because you don't see it doesn't mean it's not happening. Staten Island actually had to start burying people in mass graves, no Christian or Jewish burials allowed. It looked like something out of a medieval painting. You may not have it, but other people around you may have it, and may not do as well as you.

I want football more than anyone, but I don't want people to die or to be hurt watching a game they love. If we can get over a hump in like a month, then maybe we can do something, but for now, we need to just prepare for a delayed or shorter season.

If the NFL must be on, then play it behind closed doors without fans. That's the last resort based on if the virus doesn't wind down by September and if the league cannot be delayed or shortened.

You're sounding quite disconnected from reality when you say "this thing just isn't that bad" when 126,000+ of your fellow countrymen have succumbed to it in about three and a half months... and we haven't seen this thing manifest itself during a winter season. I have good reason to be skeptical about a 2020 NFL season.

Incidentally, the Common Cold, MERS and SARS are three of the other six. No vaccines exist for any of them, so far. Maybe the scientists and researchers are working just as hard on this one. We need to buy these researchers more time by slowing the spread. A lot of the best scientific research minds on this are old people like Dr. Fauci. We certainly can't afford to lose any of them bc everyday people are too lazy or ignorant to learn how to try and help out.

Luckily the degree of openness is not up to you, Ran. Of course, you'd need to have a fuller understanding of hospital carrying capacities and limitations of medical personnel and other factors too numerous to name here. But no worry, that's not your role in life so don't take it personal when you show yourself completely out of step with the actual decision makers. But on the downside, please don't join the crowd that is spreading the virus or fomenting misleading info on the pandemic. That could actually kill someone and cause a lot of grief for others. Think this all the way out. And I'm sorry to hear you are in one of these high risk groups, especially as you are so young. But keep in mind, considering all people in all age groups, no one wants to die from Covid-19.

So, in 2020 the NFL might just have to decide the only choice is to take a knee in their own end zone. We'll have to score it a different kind of safety... and have the insight not to spend all next winter bitching about not having football when we have far greater problems.

To be fair, while a lot of people have died, it seems that unless you’re directly related to the medical field, most people have not really seen quite how bad COVID can be. I don’t say this simply for myself, I say it for the nurses and doctors who have struggled to tell their stories. The numbers are frightening, but hard to grasp for many. It also doesn’t help that a lot of the people who have died (nursing home residents and people who are already generally sick) are not always easily visible to the public. Most athletes or athletic people who have gotten it, like Sean Payton, have seemingly come out of it pretty much fine.

As far as I know, SARS kinda vanished on its own, but SARS acts a fair bit different from COVID-19, even if they are related.

Tbf, again, on the last paragraph, most people outside the medical profession don’t think about things like hospital capacities and the limits of doctors, until they themselves are in an ER or the ICU. Unfortunately these things require more attention now due to how serious things are.

Honestly, we’d have a better shot at an NFL season if we had just kept bars closed. Opening those up for young people to go get drunk and fall all over each other was a horrible idea. But otherwise, we should probably keep this more related to the COVID-19 thread itself, not that I haven’t contributed to this slight tangent.

The entertaining bit was that so many people thought the Rams were going to stomp us into the ground because they'd scored 35-40 points a game all year.
BB was like 'screw that' and just shut them down altogether.

I heard we signed Cam Newton to a one year deal? Terms look good tho, small downside (potential re-injury) and huge upside. Does kind of confirm the local sportscasters claiming that BB doesn't think Stidham is 'the guy'.
FYI, Boston has a suburb called Newton, and my parents live there (I used to as well).

The central question remains, will the season go ahead?

I agree, opening the bars was incredibly dumb. Back in the day, my late mother was a charge nurse and worked ICU for awhile. I can't imagine what it would have been like for our family if this happened back then. My late Dad would have been overcome with worry.

Covid-19 isn't going to be bound by one thread but I hear ya. Currently it's overwhelmed human society on at least 5 continents. I do hope and pray for a miracle of some kind.

Both of my parents work in ERs, it's incredibly stressful to hear what they've seen, but it can't necessarily be avoided.

Oh I don't mean to stop talking about it, that's pretty much impossible to avoid, and I also pray for a miracle.

And not just because I wanna see the Saints with Malcolm Jenkins back in the fall.

So, apparently with the new Madden, when you do the mode (like QB1 on 2020), you pick your college. But instead of playing the two games, you play an entire TWO SEASONS at the college level.

Fuck yeah. Gonna pre-order that. LSU TIgers!

Looks like the Redskins name is finally going bye-bye.

Even a complete dumbass like Snyder can't ignore all the money he's gonna lose if he doesn't this time.

Snyder doesn't think by linear logic. He thinks on levels of logic we mortals can't possibly understand.

In all honesty, however, it's probably gonna get a rather lame replacement, as far as names go. The dislike some of these organizations for the name, however, strikes me as a little hypocritical, considering that they're concerned about this term, but want to do very little to actually aid Native Americans in their plights. FedEx is certainly not the only offender. I say give it a different Indian name, but not a term as controversial as "Redskins". The Washington Algonquins is probably more of a mouthful, but it would give recognition to a large swath of Northeastern Native American tribes under that umbrella term. I'm not expecting Dan Synder to think of anything that interesting or dynamic, but it's a suggestion.

I hope the name Chiefs stays though. That's a good, short, fun name, and "Chief" is not an insult or controversial term.

I'm going to write Dan Snyder to suggest my earlier suggestion of "Dansnyders"

What could they use as a new name for the team?

Washington Native Americans?
Washington First Nations?

What are the odds for Washington Dansnyders? You know he'll consider it just to spite us all

He would, because I'm pretty sure Dan Snyder does more coke than the entire country combined, even though he only has to look at his reflection to get high.

Yeah right. If he does, rename them the Krauts or the Polochs or something. It’ll be absolutely hilarious.

I mean, come on. Obviously if a team is named after a group it’s not in mockery. What about the Celtics? Is that racist? This is absurd.

Why not name it after Dan Snyder as Tombradyonia suggested :lol2:

On a more serious note, there's a football club in Scotland called Celtic and their name symbolizes their Scottish and Irish roots. The Washington name is a derogatory term for Native Americans and their logo is a caricature of them.

Celtic isn't a racial slur. Redskin is. Kind of comparing apples and oranges here. The guy doesn't even have to change much. Plenty of Native American themed names he could go with. But he's been adamant about sticking to one that is a slur against a whole group of people. The Cleveland Indians ditched Chief Wahoo, it's time for Snyder to ditch this name.

That’s why he should rename them the Krauts. Derogatory term for Germans. And guess how many people will be offended? Zero. It’s a great way of demonstrating how absurd this is.

My point being: this is absurd. The logo is a depiction of a Native American. I don’t see a problem with this, at all. If it was a white dude, then people would get pissed about that, too. Because how dare they have a white man on the helmet when they’re called the redskins? Complaints concerning Chief Wahoo, while still annoying, I could understand. This isn’t even close to being offensive. And as for the name? So what. Nobody is marching out a sports team with a name of a group they despise or do not respect. It’s a point of pride. Anyone getting drafted is thinking ‘Wow, I’m a Redskin.” Anyone watching is saying “Go Redskins”(okay, that one might be pushing it lol)

I just avoided using the Washington nickname to be safe and simply refer to them as Washington - no nickname of course.

Bro, it's not absurd. He's making fat stacks on a team named after, and I repeat, a RACIAL. SLUR. Keep the logo, keep the colors, that's fine. It's just the NAME he needs to change.

“Redskins” is weird because some Natives consider it an insult, some don’t. I don’t know what that split is statistically. Honestly the thing that’s most damning is that when the Cherokee Nation asks him about the name, he says nothing, and the news doesn’t talk much about it, but when FedEx and Pepsi threaten to take money it’s everywhere. Cause, you know, FedEx and Pepsi care more about Natives than the Native Americans.

This is partially riding the wave of renaming things around the country, but they’ve been trying to get that name changed for years. I don’t know if Snyder is actually gonna go through with it, or what the new name will be. That’s why I suggested “Algonquins”, because that’s actually a group of Natives that historically have lived in the region around Maryland (and like every state up the East Coast). “Redskins” is not actually the name of a tribe. “Celtics” is the name of a historical tribe of people, so no it’s not racist. (Though I’m sure some looney on Twitter thinks it is.)
