Long story short, there was a charity auction where the winning bid would get you to watch MNF with Roger Goodell at his house. It was 'won' (highest bid) by Barstool Sport's Dave Portnoy but the NFL have decided to block him from 'winning'.

Portnoy and Barstool Sports certainly don't enjoy a universally beloved reputation and have done some 'edgy' stuff, but nevertheless are widely liked by Pats fans for their long standing feud with Goodell and, admittedly, for Portnoy having created the (in)famous Goodell clown nose image on merchandising (even handing towels and shirts out for free at Pats games).

I'd feel bad if Portnoy wasn't well known for being a complete douche.

Hey, we do epic lulz down here in New Orleans. Coach P just emphasized that. I hear he wears that shirt quite often.

And what other cities will take a few months out of the year to make fun of the NFL Refs as we did after the NOLA No-Call at the end of the 2018-19 season with our Mardi Gras celebrations.

Well, Portnoy is despicable human being and Barstool's not really where people should be getting anything from unless it's Boston sports. Just saying.

I wouldn’t put it past Goodell. The past is the past, nothing we can do, but even outside of the Saints’ issues, Goodell has been thin-skinned toward other teams trying to be successful.

It looks like he did clarify his statement later, but I hardly think Drew Brees hates black people or his black teammates. I think personally that it was a media trap to bring-up Kaepernick specifically (despite being somewhat relevant, the issue now is not as much kneeling for the flag as it is the right to march in a protest, and the direction of the protests). And considering that the military has just essentially acted against Trump’s orders and is implicitly supporting the protestors, I think the issue is more complicated. If he supports the military, then he probably does support the protests in his own way, but Twitter as usual is just a place for celebrities to yell at each other.

The right to protest includes different (productive) ways of protesting, and whether a person likes marching or kneeling, they’re free to like either way and to explain why they like either method. I stand during the anthem, but my way of showing support for reform is by kneeling in church and praying for our country. Which, given Drew is a devout Baptist, I’m sure is what he probably does as well. You don’t have to agree with my praying for reform. I feel it is the most effective thing I can do, as a Christian, and I feel it will bear fruit in the end. I’m sure he feels a similar way.

I do hope he’ll try to patch things up, though, for the sake of uniting the people around him. It looks like he’s trying, though it won’t be easy. After all, few people in New Orleans have held as much sway as Drew Brees, and for the last fourteen years he’s tried to do a lot to unite the people in the city. As a Saints fan who’s watched Drew since he came to New Orleans, we need unity and peacemakers more than ever. I’m trying not to speak from a place of some simple bias, but it takes more than 280 words for me to explain what I’m feeling.

On a related note, while I hope LeBron James is doing well and is staying safe, it’s rather hypocritical for him to call-out Drew for not liking a way of protesting when he flat refused to stand with the protesters in Hong Kong (since the NBA gets a lot of funding and fans from China). Others like Malcolm Jenkins and Michael Thomas are at least consistent, and I respect them (I will always have love for Malcolm Jenkins), but LeBron I think needs to look inside himself a bit.

I hope it dawned on him with the backlash that came on Twitter, but I think it was a case of not realizing that people are truly drawing lines based on what has happened. Based on his Twitter it looks like he’s been spending a lot of time working with food banks and charities around New Orleans due to COVID, so he’s not some Evil-McNeevil. He does look like he cares about his community. But he’ll have to do a lot to get people to see that he’s not trying to harm them, because of how serious this has become.

1. Seahawks: 28,982 (5)
2. Chargers: 22,228 (3)
3. Rams: 22,004 (4)
4. Dolphins: 21,183 (3)
5. Raiders: 20,967 (1)
6. 49ers: 20,368 (2)
7. Bills: 20,066 (2)
8. Cardinals: 19,456 (2)
9. Cowboys: 19,286
10. Patriots: 19,266 (2)
11. Broncos: 18,148
12. Jets: 17,246 (2)
13. Giants: 15,928 (2)
14. Chiefs: 15,782
15. Buccaneers: 15,766 (1)
16. Jaguars: 15,234 (1)
17. Eagles: 14,890 (2)
18. Texans: 14,514
19. Saints: 13,954
20. Redskins: 13,650
21. Vikings: 12,836
22. Panthers: 12,648
23. Packers: 12,316
24. Falcons: 12,214
25. Lions: 10,166
26. Bears: 9,928
27. Titans: 8,994
28. Colts: 8,772
29. Bengals: 7,516
30. Browns: 7,342
31. Steelers: 6,600
32. Ravens: 6,420

Note: There are multiple teams this year that are expected to combine two road trips into one, and that's been taken into account. For instance, the Patriots will be staying out in Los Angeles in December when they play consecutive games against the Chargers and Rams. There are seven other teams that will likely see their travel miles cut due to two consecutive games being played on the same coast. Here's a list of those teams: Chargers (at Bucs, at Saints), Raiders (at Falcons, at Jets), Jets (at Seahawks, at Rams), Dolphins (at 49ers, at Broncos), Patriots (at Rams, at Chargers), Rams (at Eagles, at Bills), 49ers (at Giants, at Jets), Cardinals (at Panthers, at Jets).

Looks good for the Ravens this year... if the season actually happens.

Fortunately, he has apologized though the damage seems to have been done to him.

He was one of the last people I expected to say what he did. But it seems he got the message, and that's good.
Inverted Flag Law: US Code Title 4 Section 8 Paragraph (a): The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.
The United States of America has been in a state of dire distress since November 8, 2016. Flying the flag upside down is not only our right, it is our duty!

Yeah, a message from his publicist saying apologizing is good for his image...

Brees has always been outspoken about his love for the military and the service-members in his family, but his statement wasn't worded the way he intended, and I think his apology was sincere. DeMario Davis also praised him for it, if that's any weight to it. Nobody's perfect, but considering all the work he does otherwise, I feel he'd be more willing to concede so as to bring others together.
