Value has nothing to do with it.

I mean, if we're talking about the market, than yes, the market has decided that the price of sex services is higher than that of waiting tables. But it isn't exactly a free market, considering government policies on the subject. Also, sex work covers a large number of different tasks. Some are legal (strippers, burlesque dancers), some are illegal (oral, vaginal, or anal sex for money), and others exist in a legal grey area (pro doms, escorts).

Not that I'm a free marketeer.

It does sound like you're considerably drained seeing as how you haven't really been able to prove or argue anything other than by swearing rapidly, calling things retarded, and demeaning the service waiters give as less valuable than that given by sex workers.

Sex work is interesting in that the same act can be illegal or legal depending on if there is a camera filming (consensually) for the intent of sale and distribution.

What if it's not a matter of want, though? What if it's a matter of need so the person in question can survive in day-to-day life?

As is the vast majority of labor.

I don't go to work because it's fun. I go to work because I need to pay rent, pay bills, and buy food. Usually in that order of importance.

That's why it's work. Because they have to pay you to do it.

Good for you. Doesn't make it justifiable for you to demean the job waiters do just because you think you're trying to prove a point.

And sex work isn't even what we have a problem with. It's the system involved in it. The pimps and the overwhelmingly male group of producers who are no less objectionable than the regular capitalist because of how they make money off of other people selling their bodies.

I've honestly never heard of pimps inside the pornographic industry. In street escorts and the like? sure but never in the filming industry of itself.

I also call into question the "overwhelmingly male group of producers" bit as well since I've never heard of the demographic of it's producers.

They were meant to be separate. Pimp in non-pornographic sex work, and the producers of porn.

Most sex workers actually work for themselves. Not for pimps. Only about 25% or so even of the segment of sex workers who are what we traditionally call prostitutes are "street walkers."

There are always alternative jobs to work in.

When you actually get out into the working world, you tend to discover rather quickly that it's not so simple as "just find another job."

That said, many sex workers actually do like their work, so far as work goes. The shitty parts are largely due to the illegal status of their jobs (or legal grey area of their job).

Are there though? I mean, we're raised to develop certain skills - certain marketable skills - that are supposed to give us our own personal edge in the job market. If nobody wants our certain set of skills, then it doesn't really sound like there's much of an alternative.

There is always an alternative. STEM researcher, studying a specific marketable degree, apprenticeships, training programs and etc. There will be always somebody out there that wants a specific set of skills and that will never go away. As person one must always be alert and constantly keep studying their craft to prepare themselves for the working world or even build connections that will make that transition smoother. Attend public meetings and maybe skill-share if it's possible. It may not be something you like however it's a necessary start that will allow you too transition to something you will might like if that is your decision. Life is all about self-consciousness and how to use that consciousness to build success to follow up on positive actions.

sell your soul to satan.

But within the United States there are grants such as FAFSA and scholarships which depend on your income and grades. Even more so within NYC in which offers free education however you are mandated to work within the state for a period years so take that as you will.

The federal government has several programs for the disabled to allow them to work or study in a very comfortable manner.

What about the religious and ethnic minorities?
