Oh yeah, Mexican as a race is something only Mexicans recognize (Though this idea has been doing a bit of cultural osmosis in the US and Canada, not at any governmental level though). Everyone else in Latin America recognizes them by the "Standard" race classifications (Which I personally think should be done away with, but eh, I don't get to make those decisions it seems) of Black, White, Asian, Native, mixed, etc... So most Mexicans are considered either White or mixed White/Native American by every Latin American country excluding Mexico.

Ah, that classification. Well if it helps we still use that in a sense. We either differentiate people by their "home province" (because most people in the Metro are internal immigrants from somewhere else in the Philippines), so we classify them by which province their ancestry comes from (and possibly by what language they speak other than Tagalog). And then, on the other hand, we also sometimes use the old Spanish distinctions of race such as Mestizo, moreno, chinito (which isn't exactly a Spanish term) based on the lightness of the skin, and then if you're white we have to differentiate on whether or not you're light skinned because you're Chinese or not. Thankfully we've done away with the more ludicrous classifications (such as the distinction between insulares and peninsulares, etc.).
