I'm certain that criticisms could be flung back as well given that the Sexual Revolution caused an explosion in STD's throughout the sixties and seventies as well as an increase in out-of-wedlock pregnancies. That's not an argument that I'm making here, but it's worthwhile to actually consider the other side's argument before concluding that they have nothing at all to offer society.

Reikoku wrote:I'm sure that they believe in what they advocate, though if that makes their intentions "noble," then it would be impossible to criticize just about any political movement.

We need more, not fewer, gadflies for the family and for discipline. I'm not in favor of abstinence-only sexual education, but urging moderation, restraint, and respect are important as well.

All men. With young black and indigenous men having it even worse than the others. I posted a source earlier. And, again, the problem with the oppressor-oppressed dynamic is that it ignores the oppression by men of men and by women of women or else belittles it next to oppression which feeds more adequately into the narrative. It's not talking about institutions so much as it's talking about social groups.

Democratic Communist Federation wrote:It is not narrower among critical (Marxist) sociologists.

A subset of sociologists whose methods are flawed and who are largely inspired by someone whose historiography and social theory were inadequate beyond being a somewhat tolerable criticism of society in the late nineteenth century.

Idk, I've personally never seen any emotional benefits of abstinence, and there's no real 'moral benefits' to speak of, either.

Some people, like myself, aren't really comfortable having sex outside a committed relationship. There are emotional benefits, they just don't affect everyone. (As for moral benefits, well, who can call avoiding the transmission of STDs anything but moral.)

I wouldn't say I champion abstinence so much as selectivity and emotional commitment. Being used by people and discarded sucks. STDs suck. Facing a pregnancy alone because your partner is an ass sucks.

Emotional commitment is something quite important to me, I gotta say.

Sex without emotion is just robotic.

Mutual masturbation is probably the best description I've heard, but, given my prudishness, I probably won't dwell on this subject too long. Pardon me. :p

That's up for the telegrams.

Anyways, like I said, commitment in a relationship, regardless of its composition (it could be same-sex, polyamorous, etc...) is a pretty damn good key to a successful one.

I'm pretty sure that's most people, myself included.

There are emotional benefits, they just don't affect everyone.

Which is why I fail to see the use in teaching them, if abstinence is going to be expected of most people, but few will experience them.

(As for moral benefits, well, who can call avoiding the transmission of STDs anything but moral.)

Not having an STD is a health benefit, not a moral one.

Sure, emphasize those two things. I just don't see any use in promoting abstinence. Because yes, everything you said that sucks does suck. And not in the good way.

Most definitely. Communication as well. Comprehensive Sex Ed shouldn't just be about how not to get STDs, or an explanation of how reproduction works. It should address the ins and outs (pun not intended) of all forms of intimate relationships, and the basics of how not to be a shitty person in any intimate relationship.

It's probably a good time to confess that for some reason, I mixed Argentina (where Liri lives) up with Brazil, so my mind leaped to Bolsonaro rather than Argentinan conservatives, who I know nothing about. Disregard my post please.

Are you kidding? We all know Argentina is nothing but a Brazilian ploy meant to undermine the British imperial destiny by seizing the Falklands!
