Personally, I would call modern social democracy left centrism. It is still centrism.

Rosa Luxemburg worked hard to keep social democracy as a term for communism. (Partly, it was an aspect of her continuing battle with Eduard Bernstein.) Ultimately, she was, of course, unsuccessful.
