My Great-Grandfather was a Sherman Tank Commander for the Polish 1st Armoured Division, 1st Armoured Regiment.

He started out as a Polish Dragoon, then after Poland fell he left with the rest of his men to France, fought there and then left to Britain, and in 1944 landed and Normandy and fought all the way to Belgium with his men.

He died after his tank got hit by a enemy Panzer IV outside Ruysselede Belgium.

The only real hero of my family ;-;

Im also told in my family lore I have a ancestor who was a polish winged hussar. But I don't know how credible that is.
Im a slightly Authoritarian Moderate, I believe limited monarchies are the best systems of government, and that every 2016 presidential candidate was an idiot.
I personally feel that most people, in the act of trying to sound smart, often usually don't know what the fuck they are talking about.

I'd bet that there is an English speaking ancestry service that deals with Spanish records.

Maternal side, my great great great grand mother was from the same Ismay clan that owned the Titanic, though she was cut out for marrying an Irishman. -and then well the White Star Line sunk with its ship-

that side also has a great great great great garndfather who met Captain James Cook when he first reached New Zealand

Paternal side, my great great grandfather was a Mines surveyor who was employed by the NZ Government to find gold, though he was later arrested for riding his horse while drunk. His son (my great grandfather) became a surveyor and bridge builder with the Armed Constabulary (precursor to the NZ Police)

In my time chasing down genealogy I've found a few I'd call interesting.
One was a soldier who started WWII as a private, went to officer candidate school for antiaircraft artillery in 1942 or 1943, after the war he was commander of the Sonthofen district of the US Military Government of Germany and while in that position he was an observer in an aircraft that struck a skier with its wheel and killed the skier, by 1968 he was listed by the state department as being assigned to the Business Development office in the Saigon embassy, and by the 70s he was a lawyer in California.
Another was a woman by the name of Francis Latham who has also been called "the mother of governors".
Then there was another who served as a US Navy Armed Guard signalman aboard a ship that was mostly crewed by the merchant marines and that ship made 7 unescorted voyages across the Pacific to supply the soldiers, that sailor later died in a plane crash at the age of 30. He was either trying to use propwash to clear frost off of some power lines or inspecting powerlines for frost, but either way he crashed into a pole that was not on the charts.
Finally there was a blacksmith father and son, one of the pair ran 64 miles in one day to gather the Green Mountain Boys for Ethan Allen to attack Fort Ticonderoga.
Call me Stretch as that is who I am and who I shall remain for my entire life.

Don't know much beyond my great grandparents. I know that on my mother's side I'm related to a minor noble family (Winstanley) from the North West of England, who seem pretty obscure. The earliest member of that family that gets a mention is someone back in the 11th or 12th century, I think, and then there's a knight who apparently accompanied Edward the Black Prince over to Spain, and was in his personal retinue. As for my dad's side, just a sept of an old Scottish clan. My grandad on my dad's side was a messenger for the RAF in WW2, can't exactly remember what my great-grandad did, but I know he was member of the Soviet Communist party. Also apparently some ancestors on that line who stole sheep (might've been cattle, can't remember), or something like that. Also possibly related to the Barons of Straloch.

As for my DNA, it seems to be scattered across the British Isles. Along with 1.1% from South Central Asia.

I'll recommend Living DNA, since it seems more in depth than some other ones people often go for.

Related mostly to a bunch of Swedish farmers and miners, as well as some minor politicians/on my mother's side, andWilliam Findley. Nothing too interesting on that side.

On my dad's side, related mostly to working-class Germans, Irish, Scottish and Spanish Americans who lived across the country. The one interesting family I supposedly have some relation to is the Kennedy Family, but who knows if my grandpa is correct or just making some shit up on that one (lets hope it's true?)

Paternal ancestors were a bunch of minor Hungarian nobles who settled in Northern Germany around 400 years ago or so.
