Interesting footnote, Ted Kennedy died of the same exact brain cancer on August 25, 2009 (exactly 9 years before McCain died). Interestingly, in the following midterm election his party got clobbered and lost it's majority in the House.
Mark Twain once said history doesn't exactly repeat but it rhymes. Brain cancer deaths of the lions of the senate may now be presenting itself as an integral part of another example of Twain's historical rhymes.

With all due respect, McCain probably would have ditched Palin after winning, and/or she'd be powerless. I doubt she'd be there for long, in all honesty, McCain was politically Savvy enough to ditch her once he realized she'd be more of a burden and dangerous, he only kept her because it could cause instability in his campaign so he kept her to show he was for stability. Yeah it was a bad move, but not necessarily a politically inadept one.

Presidents do not fire VPs. That said VPs really do not have a job other than to break ties in the Senate unless the President gives them one.

Despite being a Republican he was a good person for the left. He was actively tring to modernise the GOP Party and make it more progressive. Since the GOP is full of white indentitarians McCain was figting thoose radicals. Also, he voted for Amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants. RIP McCain and thank you for everything.
