Masterpiece Cakeshop back to court.

Postby Greed and Death » Thu Aug 16, 2018 7:41 pm

https://www.politico.com/magazine/story ... rsy-219365

The owner of Masterpiece cake shop is suing the state of Colorado as the civil rights commission ruled against them again.

This time a Transgendered individual sued alleging discrimination. She was seeking a cake that was blue on the outside and pink on the inside to celebrate both her birthday and coming out about being a woman. This time the bakeshop waited until the individual described the cake she wanted before citing religious belief that they would not do it (likely he was coached by his attorney).

It is worth pointing out this case was likely a plant as the individual approached the cakeshop on the day cert was granted.

My opinion is his case is stronger because he waited until a design was proposed to deny creating a cake and he likely doesn't make coming out cakes for non transgendered individuals so it is harder to say the discrimination is based on the transgendered status of the individual. Lastly because the the Civil rights commission ruling came only a few weeks after the supreme court's ruling it is very likely the record is littered with the same Social Justice nonsense that got the Supreme Court to bench slap the commission last time.

So NSG is this illegal discrimination against a Transgendered individual and if it does should there be a speech/religious exception to it.

I love that this battle is being fought with cakes.

So much more civilised than previous civil rights disagreements then tended to be fought with lynchings and such. The US is finally growing up a bit. :)

I'd sue the person and the state government. Get enough money for an early retirement.

For the life of me, why is it so hard just to say NO and leave out the religious aspect of it. No fuss no muss.
A potential customer isn't due any explanation if the answer is a NO.

Ok, if pink interior of a cake isn't a reason to reject making it on principle, I don't know what is.

They deserve the anguish of not having a pink interior of a cake.

It's chocolate or vanilla. Black, or sort of white/yellow (you know, cake color), or, in some cases, red velvet.

Here we go again.

I can make a prediction. Colorado will of course hold that it's illegal discrimination. The appeals court will hold that under the previous case it's not illegal, as you cannot be compelled to speak, and creating a cake with a political message was held as speech. I don't see SCOTUS agreeing to re-hear the case again when it's essentially the exact same case, which means it ends with that appellate decision.

You've obviously never had the joy that is a Jello cake.

Actually, it's fruit cake.

The rest is for people who have no taste in cake.

Fruit cake? Isn't that that stuff that's never eaten, only repeatedly regifted and passed down from generation to generation?

Only by savages.

The trick is the rum. Half to soak the fruit and then half to pour over the cooked cake so it's still alcoholic. And by half and half I mean the bottle.

Yah, I get that a lot. Doesn't change the fact that Jello cake with whipped cream frosting is the best thing ever, especially if chilled.

Wouldn’t it be easier, more effective, and tastier to just drink the rum?
