No, but they could've payed workers what they were really owed and give employees reasonable hours to work.

You'd think, right? And yet strangely enough workers who protested for their rights were killed. Probably because their economic value to the capitalists was offset by the potential economic loss that could result from their ideas becoming widespread.

Unless you mean for automation, I would suggest UBI until transhumanism is achievable.
