You don't have to. Frievolk is just confirming that your ideal form of government is a dictator that agrees with you about everything.

Democracy is ultimately useless because the lowest common denominator of people are idiots and vote based on whatever bullshit you feed them on TV. These people make up the majority of the populace. They don't care whether their country goes to shit or not as long as they get their bread and circus.
An absolute monarchy or a military dictatorship is more effective. The lower people need someone strong to direct them as has been the case for pretty much all of human history.

A more adequate comparison would be a badly-run democracy versus a well-run dictatorship...

You don't have to support it, but if the majority selects something you don't like, you nor anyone else get the power to veto it.
Surprise, but dictatorships don't always follow your beliefs either, but when it comes to democracies at least you have a platform to speak and defend your ideas.

The example I was responding to was that, while dictators kill dissidents, democratic governments will not. You said democratic governments do 'do these things', hence the death squads joke.

For being political dissidents? Because that was the point: dictators kill dissidents, democracies do not.
