One thing about this story that baffles me more and more as I think about it is how this foreign minister is allowed to say that Surinam is a failed state. It doesn't seem like a particularly failed state- since the 1980s that is anyway. Unless I've missed something in my 2 minute Google search, the place seems rather inoffensive. Mind you, the Netherlands and Suriname seem to have in the past 10 years developed a more and more strained relationship so that might be a factor.

Canada mainly deals with Anglophone and Francophone differences, but sectionalism in Quebec does not continue to any rioting I'm aware of. And there are African- and Asian-Americans in Canada too.
I have no idea what America is doing wrong. Sure, we have more than five times the population of Canada, but they get along in peace while we literally have large groups of Neo-Nazis attacking African-Americans and antifa attacking conservative or religious demonstrations. What is our problem? Why can't our politicians figure it out?

There's several problems in the US. I'll go with two party system, lobbying, prison system, educational opportunities for the poor(/economic mobility across generations) and a relative lack of social security.
