Can we trade Manchin for Murkowski?

Don't know. Electorally speaking, the Democrats would have to field a more right-wing candidate in West Virginia to win, and the Republicans would have to employ a left win candidate in Alaska to win. There is no electoral room to the left of Manchin and the right of Murkowski.

Hugin's giving a pretty good show. Wouldn't be too terribly shocked (or upset) if he won.

Then you can't complain about the choices or who won.

Why not?

Menendez should never have been allowed to run again after the trial.

Even with the charges dropped, he is political poison. If he does win, it is because of the partisan lean of the state.

I honestly can't wait for early voting so I can turnout for Ted Cruz.

Because that's who ran in the primary and that's who the voters selected. If you dont your like your choices and you think you can do better run yourself

I know Facebook and other social media is not not a good indication of support but ive seen a lot of comments on Andrew Cuomo's facebook promoting Larry Sharpe the Libertarian candidate. I wonder how much of it is genuine support and how much is fake profiles or Russian bots.

If it wasn't for the Trump factor, Menendez would've easily lost this year, I truly believe that.

There's plenty of room for someone to the right of Murkowski. At least from the way a buddy of mine in Alaska described it the only reason she won is because her dad was sort of a household political name in the state. It's not impossible she gets booted out eventually.

From what ive heard Alaska has been moving leftward. Someone whose far right would have a difficult time getting elected there. Its a relatively moderate state.

They won't go that far to the left. The state's economy suffers from such a severe case of Dutch Disease that even the unions are opposing Measure 1 next month because who cares about salmon? They won't willingly get rid of their annual stipend and replace it with a tax, and they won't destroy their economy for environmental concerns.

True but the state is changing.

At this point, I would advise just ignoring the same old call-and-repeat exercise. Just because Lumen has a penchant for repeating the same points doesn't mean we have to respond in kind....and yes, I am fully aware of how repetitive I sound.

Sharpe is only getting about two percent in the polls so it does make one wonder

You don't know Libertarians that well. They may be a small number, but they can be very vocal on social media.

Good to know. A friend of mine thinks Sharpe has a chance to win and that the polls are biased and unscientific.

Considering that I have lost all faith in polls after they blatantly dropped the ball about Donald Trump's chances of victory (and more locally, Quebec polls predicting a minority government for the CAQ...only for them to become a sizeable majority), it DOES make me wonder.

Indeed it will. It'd be fascinating to see a major change, but I doubt that'll happen.

Len Hyet wrote:That article isn't exactly convincing when it's being run right next to a different opinion piece saying Democrats have unleashed a red wave of Brett Kavanaugh-believing women voters.

They're both opinion pieces written by people with a vested interest in their opinion being right. Neither take the time to actually analyze polling data, just giving a brief nod to it and claiming it supports their position.

0/10 would not use an opinion piece to predict outcomes

I'm not. I predicted 54-44-2 for the Senate back in August, and I'm sticking by that. I just found it funny that USA Today is going with opinion pieces to try and figure out the election results.

True, but Florida has a Trumper and a Berner going head to head. It's finally interesting to watch Florida for something other than laughter and electoral confusion :P
